I'd have to give it some thought, and some would have more of a relation to war than are war movies, but these are sdome to come to mind quickly... and I tend to favour anti-war films... Hi, Definitely on my list ... if I could make one, but there are way too many more to consider. In looking at my reviews, here is a bunch more: The Bedsitting Room (Spike Milligan's opus) Charge of the Light Brigade (Famous English screw up in leadership!) The Last Days of England The Field To Live Indochine (the French in SE Asia before America) The Nightporter (more about the aftermath of the WW2) The Island on Bird Street (you must see it to believe it!) Burnt by the Sun The Stalker (might not fit in this idea here) Hemingway and Gellhorn (mostly about the two in Spain amidst the Spanish Civil War) Rhapsody in August PS: "The Island on Bird Street" was listed at the Portland International Film Festival as a film for kids, and the sad factor was ... it killed the film. No mom was going to bring her kids in after reading the synopsis of the film. And no adult will show up to see a film with kids in the audience ... they get offended when a kid cries or laughs at the wrong moment! Never mind ... forget it! Its story is different and difficult, and one kid manages to survive in the rubble with a little friend ... a little mouse that finds the food and then takes the kid there to get it. And the kid manages to survive the whole thing, as the mouse eventually succumbs towards the end. In the middle of WW2 and a political story since the kids meets a Jewish family on the other side of the rubble ... exactly the type of story you really would not want to bring your child to see ... too many things to explain that are just impossible all around! It's a great film, and just a very different element about "war" ... but the kid survives it, even with the help from the little one! Beautifully done and thought out ... really is!
