Around the dreaming spires of Canterbury, there's no Grey area regarding who's going to win this poll, as Caravan are already clearly in the Pink!

The tough choices keep coming so again, first love. This time, 'Camembert Electrique' bought for a princely 55p from Virgin records in Nottingham. 'Banana Moon' followed not long after.

Well, I'll be the first to vote for Moving Gelatine Plates, but Supersister also could have got my vote.

I used to shop at Virgin Records (on King Street) in Nottingham too. The last album I bought from there was Renaissance' Azure d'Or in 1979 after listening to it first on one of their in-store turntables. Those were the days my friend, I thought they'd never end.....

Yes, we used to do the same in there. I am not sure what the last thing was I bought from there but I used to head straight for their dedicated Virgin label rack when I went in.

I remember when Richard Branson turned up for the grand opening of the huge Virgin Megastore on Wheeler Gate in Nottingham. I didn't recognise him at first as he was wearing black-rimmed spectacles, which didn't really suit him. He should have gone to Specsavers.
Richard Branson in Baywatch. No acting required as he was playing the part of himself.

Interesting that you removed Robert Wyatt's debut album after somebody voted for it.
Not the best album on the list but certainly better than the 1 star that you offered.
Sometimes certain musical expressions require a great deal of time to comprehend.
Personally i think that Moving Gelatine Plates is the ultimate expression of prog in every form.

You'll find it in the poll for the year it was released, in 1970:)

One of my fave albums of ALL time :)
Although I voted for Fourth I agree. I have so many all time favorites among the Canterbury-scene albums. I were to make my own top 100 (like the one on PA's front page) I suppose five or six of these would end up on it. A couple of them near the top.

I didn't remove Robert Wyatt's debut. It's still there in the previous 1970 poll.

Almost impossible to vote because all the early 70s Canterbury is classic prog gold. My bad! Wyatt WAS 1970 :)

Caravan are right at the front of the queue for a change, instead of holding up all of the bank holiday traffic in a mile-long tailback.

In situations like this, I went with first love - that is Camembert Electrique. Notable is Soft Machine's Fourth, which was Wyatt's last with the band. Some might argue that a lot of Canterbury left with him although Hopper and Ratledge remained. The slow fade of 'Virtually' on side 2 almost sounds like Wyatt silently leaving. A great album.
