Subject: "Classic" 70s Le Orme Poll

I have made a poll from what I consider to be the best "classic" 1970s period for Italy's Le Orme. (I am not including the English lyric version "Felona and Sorona" recording) I feel what came after these early to mid 70s albums from Le Orme is not in their league. It is a tough choice for myself, as I really admire all of these listed, but in the final analysis, I am going with Felona e Sorona. That album distills for me most all the great attributes of the band from that time; deeply moving vocals, and wonderful instrumental technique, making for their most cohesive and "emotional" album. What is your fave from the list?

It's impossible for me to choose. I love all these albums quite the same.

Felona E Serona, Uomo Di Pezza and Contrapunti are all 5 star releases in my opinion. I will not take away from any of these legendary releases by choosing a favorite. In all honesty Collage is almost a 5 star release too and I listen to this release just as often. I have yet to pick up the In Concerto release. Someone needs to remaster these releases in 24/96 format/gold discs. Not to take away from the very good quality of the Phillips AAD transfers. Shows how good the original recording quality was. I’d love to hear them in ADD 24/96 remaster in nice mini lp sleeve. Maybe someone did this already?   Steven Wilson would do an excellent job.

I think Felona e Sorona is just a liiiittle bit superior to the others. It has something in its spirituality that conquers me.

Felona and Sorona is considered Le Orme's masterpiece.

Even in PA it got the best score.

It's certainly a great opera, a beautiful concept album.

But in my opinion, from a musical point of view, Collage is slightly better.

Uomo di pezza included some weak songs and in general is less inspired.

Don't think I have a favourite although I have at least 3 of those on constant rotation.

I consider their recordings pre Collage as not really progressive rock, and the recordings after In Concerto to not be really in the same league as those I have listed.

Florian is absolutely on this level. In fact it's better than Contrappunti.

Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

I think I'll give it to Collage. There's this sort of undistanced innocence that I find so endearing (also present on their following albums) and soothing. Cressida (both), Celeste (debut)... and I suppose early Moody Blues got it too. For those days when I'm not up for a challenge, but need beauty, warmth and comfort.

While I truly cannot pick a favorite I will choose a favorite for the day. The choice goes to Uomo Di Pezza. My mother could not get enough of the beautiful piano parts. It’s gotta be good to bring the Italian out in my 76 year old mother. I used to listen to this release with my Godmother, Grandfather and Grandmother. My Grandfather was born in Italy. This is music the whole family can enjoy without being derivative, pop, corny or Barry Manilowesk and without understanding Italian. I do not know of many bands that have this same quality.
