I have said this before, but when AoS was released, Q Magazine hailed it as a masterpiece a stated that if any other band not called Marillion had released it, it would have been a smash hit.
The album has stood the test of time remarkably well.
Having said that, FEAR is an utter masterpiece, so it gets my vote.

Afraid of Sunlight. FEAR, apart from The Leavers, did nothing for me.

For some reason, after This Strange Engine, Marillion has not impressed me very much. Out of these two albums, I prefer Afraid of Sunlight, but is not among my favorites.

Hard to choose. I'll go with AoS, but could be FEAR if voted yesterday or tomorrow.

It's just my personal opinion, but Afraid Of Sunlight is the reason why I stopped buying Marillion in the 90s
------------- I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

And as a result, you have missed some snorting albums!

And as a result, you have missed some snorting albums! | Luca might be bemoaning the loss of Fish, after giving a few H albums a shot.

I am very surprised about how many people have chosen FEAR over Afraid of Sunlight. It goes to show you never can tell.

I have always liked AoS, especially King... but being as I've never heard FEAR, it would be unfair to vote for it.. I sort of gave up on Marillion after .Com (although did return for Marbles) but haven't bothered after that.

F.E.A.R. is for me one of the better recent (say, last 20 years) Marillion albums, but I still do prefer Afraid of Sunlight, which is one of the H-era highlights for me.

I voted FEAR even though Afraid Of Sunlight has long been a favourite. That 2016 release really surprised me.

A very close call between the two albums so far - just goes to show how polarizing Marillion albums can be.

Not all that impressed by FEAR. I think the new one is so much better. However comparing the above two from start to finish my preference is for FEAR, which is more consistent. Afraid of Sunlight is terribly uneven with the best song being terrific (King) and the worst (Beautiful) being very ordinary. It's just an album I don't play very often.
