Greetings one and all! So I'm sitting here in the dark and some jerk pulls me out of some stinking tunnel and slaps my ass and now I'm to be called "Brian" from now until I return to nothingness. Well, that was 31 years ago and I think that I should have stayed where it was warm and quiet. Then this person that thinks that she owns me because I spent nine months inside of her gives me a record player and an album by a dude named "Sam Cooke". Little did I know that he died outside of a hotel in his underwear, chasing some chick and no doubt engorged, if you can dig it. Ok, so I was around when MTV started with all of that Hall and Oates stuff and then I hear "Tom Sawyer", which is the first prog song that I was exposed to. Man, I just realized that Rush was my first... The Earth circles this big star for another ten years and I enjoyed rap for a brief period(we all have our skeletons) until I get exposed to a stack of records that belonged to a friends' father. For awhile it was nothing but Sabbath and Zeppelin until I hit middle school. I did observe an ELP video of old footage recorded f**k knows when yet I was impressed and that was that. Now I'm still trying to obtain obscure gems from the early to mid-70's of nothing but prog and a few sub-genres like krautrock and Canterbury stuff. Oh, if you can get Amon Duul 2's "Yeti", it's a must-have. My latest additions have been Gilgamesh's "Arriving Twice" and "Fish Rising" by Steve Hillage. Does anyone know any place that has the best selection of prog rock? Again, I feel lucky to have found this place. Good day! |
