Okay, friends, after a lot of geographical and a couple of stylistic lists, which I hope you enjoyed and found advantageous, I think it'll be interesting with some more of the stylistic ones, and see what they bring. So here, let us try the Progressive part of Jazz-Rock, with my own list unranked:
Jean-Luc Ponty (F) - Upon the Wings of Music(1975)
Return to Forever (USA) - Where Have I Known You Before(1974)
SBB (PL) - 2: Nowy Horyzont(1975)
Secret Oyster (DK) - Sea Sun (1974)
Weather Report (USA) - Black Market(1976)
Wigwam (FIN) - Being (1974) Stomu Yamashta (J) - Raindog(1975)
Frank Zappa (USA) - Hot Rats(1969)
And I hope you'll enjoy it!

If anybody should be interested in my own definition of Jazz-Rock so, it's simply some kind of Jazz and Rock fusion, and Rock elements being significantly present.
Besides that, I can recommend very much the book Jazz-Rock. A History (1998) by Stuart Nicholson.

Well if fusion is the same as jazz rock, which I assume it is with your entries of Mahavishnu Orchestra, Ponty, RTF, and Weather Report, I could easily list 100, as this is my favorite genre. I will leave out all the usual suspects and list only those that need more exposure.
Panzerballett - Planet Z
Nova Collective - The Further Side
Dewa Budjana - Naurora
Antoine Fafard - Proto Mundi
CAB - CAB4
Evan Brewer - Your Itinerary
Chick Corea Elektric Band - Beneath the Mask
Dixie Dregs - Unsung Heroes
Phil Miller In Cahoots - Conspiracy Theory
Owane - Yeah Whatever
Dave Weckl - Master Plan
Pat Metheny Group - The Road to You (Pat needs more exposure at PA)

a long way from being my favourite genre tbh. I enjoy the Colosseum 2 albums Electric Savage and War Dance as well as the UK debut album (although this is only partly fusion/jazz rock) plus the ELP track When The Apple Blossom Blooms. I also like the Liquid Tension Experiments albums a lot. I can take or leave Soft Machine and The Mahavishnu Orchestra but they are fine. The drumming is the only thing that attracts me. Arguably Elephant 9 are more jazz/fusion than anything else they might be and they are probably my favourite new discovery of the last 5 years . Not sure that they count though..

I can tell about my own interest for Jazz-Rock, if only looking at it as a kind of music and not a term, that it began in my teenage years, back in mid-70's. I had a period at that time when I only was hooked on instrumental Rock (in fact Prog) music, like Mike Oldfield and Rick Wakeman's The Six Wives of Henry VIII. Then, one day, I don't remember exactly how, Birds of Fire got to my hands - I think I saw the record at the local library, and I liked the cover. - That was at that time a very usual way for me to discover some new to me music.
Anyway, listening to Birds of Fire showed to be one of those really magical experiences, and I didn't think of its music as something else than the other instrumental music, I was listening to - certainly not as Jazz. At about the same time, I discovered Return to Forever, Weather Report, the Danish band Secret Oyster, all likewise magical, and others, and that showed to be the beginning of my very close and enjoyable relation to this sub-genre.
By the way, in fact it all began in a small way already a couple of years earlier with Hot Rats.

In Cahoots - Split Seconds
Return to Forever - Return to Forever

Many great suggestions have been made!
Of course, I gravitate to the usual stuff = Mahavishnu (Emerald), RTF (Where Have...) etc.
Don't forget "Powers of Ten" by Shawn Lane!
Some of my favorites are solo projects or side projects:
"Shakti" by John McLaughlin
"Stanley Clarke" second LP, and also "School Days" are personal favorites!
"Blow by Blow" by Jeff Beck
"Spectrum" by Billy Cobham
Chicago is quite a capital for Jazz Rock Fusion, including:
"Rough Draft" by Apprentice
"Scramble" by Kick the Cat
More to follow!

The "Peter and the Wolf" project, including an all-star cast from Brand X, is worth exploring!
With Phil Collins on drums, Percy Jones bass and a cast of rock legends. Manfred Mann as "Peter," Eno playing "The Wolf ," Stephane Grappelli is "The Cat," Gary Moore and Alvin Lee as "The Duck," Gary Brooker "The Bird," Phil Collins, Bill Bruford and Cozy Powell play "The Hunters," Jack Lancaster "The Grandfather." Narrator: Viv Stanshall. Julie Driscoll and the English Chorale. Produced and arranged by Jack Lancaster and Robin Lumley.

Hi,
Sad for me, was on what's his name's thing on TB and him making a comment about the "voice" introducing the instruments that I thought was not nice. I think that Viv and Mike wanted to make it sound really cool that these instruments were listed, which OBVIOUSLY was a throwback to the original song that was a bit of a hit by the Bonzo Dog Band ... called "The Intro and the Outro" I think it was, and ... yeah ... it was meant to be fun and then some, but as someone looking at the music "seriously", a voice making it light and enjoyable is not a good thing. Vivian was an outstanding singer, narrator and had a voice that should have been used a lot more were it not that at the time, he was simply dismissed and ignored, which I think really hurt him. And then hearing him making fun of Marat/Sade ... gives Vivian a completely different intelect and ability that is rarely associated with folks involved in rock music, many of which, could be said to not be musically talented at all.

The double album by American trumpeter Miles Davis is the best for me. He used a mix of guitar and synthesizer. All songs released now are somehow similar to this album. He even won a Grammy as far as I remember. Btw, my musical taste is quite specific. I like mixes of different compositions. I listen to them via YouTube mostly. However, it is problematic to do it outside. So I use http://youtube-to-mp3.mymp3.red/" rel="nofollow - https://youtube-to-mp3.mymp3.red/ to download them to my player. I can’t imagine myself on the street without music.
