Actually, I'm of Polish origin so, among many other countries, I've been also interested in Polish Prog. I surely wouldn't say, it's one of the best Prog countries, but nevetherless, it has produced not so little of highly appreciated albums. It'll be interesting for me to see how much of your attention they've got.Beginning with my list, one album per band and unranked:
Czeslaw Niemen Enigmatic (1969) Marek Grechuta & Anawa Korowód (1971) Skaldowie Krywań Krywań (1972) Budka Suflera Cien Wielkiej Góry (1975) SBB 2: Nowy Horyzont (1975) Indukti S.U.S.A.R. (2004) Riverside Second Life Syndrome (2005) Lunatic Soul Lunatic Soul (2008) Additional Czesław Niemen Niemen Aerolit (1975)
By the way, about the whole continental European Prog scene, if anybody is not acquainted with the book Scented Gardens Of The Mind. A guide to the golden era of progressive rock (1968 - 1980) in more than 20 European countries (2000) by Dag Erik Asbjřrnsen, I can very much recommend it.

Maybe it has something to do with being able to understanding the lyrics, as in my opinion, it's not least there the quality appears.

About experiences with the lyrics, by the way, I can tell a little story about how I received H to He Who Am the Only One. The first times I heard this album, it didn't tell me very much, almost boring. But I got the idea to look at the lyrics, which appeared very suprisingly to be, in my subjective opinion, the best lyrics I've ever seen - very poetic and emotional, and yet, easy to understand and thus very informative and profound. And then, the whole album became a very otherwise experience, as I found the music fit so well with the lyrics, and after some more listnings, this album became simply a "mind blowing" and so great experience. It was something so wonderful new for me because it never happened to me before - at least not so intense at all.
Edit: About the Polish lyrics, I can tell that a quite or maybe even very popular musical genre has been Poezja Spiewana (Sung Poetry), which lyrics typically has been based on poetry, and the album Korowód on my list is one of the very most famous and appreciated of that kind. While Cien Wielkiej Gory (Shadow of a Big Mountain), from the former pseudo-socialist Poland, too, has some lyrics amazingly critical towards the system, and one could wonder how that not only could be allowed at that time but even released by Muza, the record company of the state.

you've probably seen that most of my list is instrumental (whether 70's or recent), but that's not question of Polish lyrics
During the 90's, I heard dozens of Polish neo-prog bands and a good deal of them sang in English - and I couldn't stand any of them.

I ment some of the albums from the 70's which have been very appreciated internationally, and I listed a couple of them in my list. In the thread, I wrote also a little description of the lyrics. - I've seen quite a lot of your reviews and seem to conclude there's some similarity in ours tastes (for instance, I'm not much for the Polish Neo-Prog, either, or Neo-Prog as a whole - I'm very fond of Script for a Jester's Tear, though).
Something entirely else, how do you manage to quote two persons in one post, when the answer opens in a new window when quoting? - At least, when I do it.

I think I'd have more SBB and Millenium in this list if I ever get around to listening to their earlier stuff, so tentatively it goes something like this...
1. SBB - Memento z banalnym tryptykiem 2. Fren - Where Do You Want Ghosts to Reside 3. Lebowski - Galactica 4. Millenium - The Web 5. Retrospective - Latent Avidity 6. Czyszy - Epic May 7. Lizard - W Galerii Czasu 8. Abraxas - Abraxas 9. Immortal Onion - Ocelot of Salvation 10. Lebowski - Cinematic
I ought to explore Polish prog music more. I have ancestors that lived in the southeastern part when it was part of the Austrian province of Galicia prior to WWI.

No, there aren't. I think everything I own is from more recent years and tends to be neo-prog. I certainly need to spend some time exploring 1970s Polish prog.

I just cheat!!
There are more than one way of achieving this type of effect
- I answer to one post and then I copy it instead of sending/submit it. Then I go back to the thread
Then I quote another post and paste the text of the first than answer the second. You/I can either copy the whole thing and return to the thread as many times as you/I wish and quote as many posts you like or finally submit the drivel you/I've written.
- You can also submit your first answer and then proceed to a second one, copy it and return to the thread and copy it on your previous answer.

I must say, I'm rather suprised (and a bit disappointed) so far, nobody mentioning neither Korowód nor Cien Wielkiej Góry, and only Sean including Enigmatic in his list, as they are all three highly rated and well known on RYM. Anyway, I can surely recommend to give them a listen, and I've written some comments about the lyrics of the first two of them, and can write too about the last one, if any interest.

true about the vocals, if I don't like or tolerate the vocals, a lot of times the whole thing is ruined. What do you mean by "pop influenced"? Can you give an example?
As for Widek, I can understand his music sounding "synthetic", but I like it how he blends atmosphere and heaviness.

Haven't seen Riverside, Second Life Syndrome. Did I miss it in another Post somewhere? This is by far my favorite Riverside album, followed by Shrine of New Generation Slaves.

I'm of Polish origin too, as you probably can guess by looking at my user name. My favorite 8 Polish Prog albums:
Niemen - Aerolit (1975) Niemen - Katharsis (1975) Laboratorium - Quasimodo (1979) Marek Grechuta - Korowód (1971) Anawa - Anawa (1973) SBB - Nowy Horyzont (1975) SBB - Memento z banalnym tryptykiem (1980) Skaldowie - Krywań, Krywań (1972)
Honorable mention from more recent years: Contemporary Noise Quintet - Pig inside the Gentleman (2006) Indukti - S.U.S.A.R. (2005) Maestro Trytony - Heart of Gold (2004)

I doubt if I could guess it on basis of your user name, but when you say so, I guess you're quite a bit of Niemen aficionado - and I'd find it very probably on basis of your list here which I'm very happy to see. Anyway, welcome very much to you as an active member on PA - or what should I say as I don't know your member history.
Edit: And our Polish taste can seem to be rather in line so, I think I'll better check those two: Contemporary Noise Quintet - Pig inside the Gentleman (2006) Maestro Trytony - Heart of Gold (2004)

Really? Enigmatic is the title of Czesław Niemen album, recorded in 1969, released in early 1970. It contains "Bema pamięci żałobny rapsod", 16+ min track arguably first example of progressive rock in Polish music scene.

Not the same as the rest. You may be disappointed. ;-) Maestro Trytony - chamber music mixed with jazz. Contemporary Noise Quintet - jazz with some progressive overtones

Yes, I know, in fact it's included as #1 in my list. But your user name is just an English word, and could be related to thousand other things, right?

I'm particularly glad, you've found this thread as well, mellotronwave , and even list S.U.S.A.R, Lunatic Soul and one of the early SBB albums which I'm very fond of myself (even it's SBB's second.)

| Hi, Although using PA for a very long time for personal news/research about prog music ( in the past I used to consult the ' Gibraltar' since defunct) , I am a newbee of its forum that I flip through. There really is everything here . One is going from very interesting to mediocre topics and some are totally irrelevant A truthfulf mirror of our society perhaps ?
About induct, I wasn’t very hot about their second and last ( ?) effort that crossed the Rubicon of prog metal a bit too far for my taste

Besides S.U.S.A.R, I've only heard Inducti's second album, and didn't like it either.
And I agree about PA's diversity, as well. I hope, you'll find some of the many threads, I've started, as of the better quality.
Anyway, my very welcome to you on PA forums, again, and I hope, you'll enjoy it.
