Concerning the 00’s:

US 11 bands in all, UK and N 4, S 3, CAN 2, PL, NL, Rom, Isr, J and D 1 each

The definition of Progressive Rock as a meta-genre, I've used as a basis for this list, is following:

1. be a synthesis/fusion of Rock (significantly present) and at least one of other "main genres":

Classical, Jazz, Folk, electronic avant-garde or other avant-garde, AND

2. be rather complex or at least to some extent experimental in another way than #1.

”electronic avant-garde” is here primarily Musique Concrete and Minimalism while

”other avant-garde” include Free and Avant-Jazz and Contemporary Classical.

My earlier list, top 100, has been quite well received, and being first part of a 160 list,
here's the second part. It includes a bit of statistics for the whole list, concerning
the national origin of all the albums and the decades for their releases.
I hope you'll enjoy these more albums and bands to put focus on, or maybe get a bit suprised.

These are the albums I know and like from your list:-

Electric Light Orchestra  (UK) :   Eldorado  (1974)
National Health  (UK) :   Of Queues and Cures  (1978)
Atomic Rooster  (UK) :   Death Walks Behind You  (1970)
U.K.  (UK) :   U.K.  (1978)
Gryphon  (UK) :   Red Queen To Gryphon Three  (1974)
Steve Hillage  (UK) :   Fish Rising  (1975)
Chris Squire  (UK) :   Fish Out Of Water  (1975)
Agitation Free  (D) :   Malesch  (1972)
Jeff Wayne  (US) :   The War Of The Worlds  (1978)
Procol Harum  (UK) :   Shine On Brightly  (1968)
High Tide (UK) : Sea Shanties  (1969)
Strawbs  (UK) :   Grave New World  (1972)
Family  (UK) :   Music In A Doll’s House  (1968)

As you can probably tell, anything beyond 1979 is a bit of a grey area for me. Embarrassed

Of these I'm very fond of:
Agitation Free  (D) :   Malesch  (1972)
Procol Harum  (UK) :   Shine On Brightly  (1968)
Strawbs  (UK) :   Grave New World  (1972)

And I can say tell you for sure that 70's is my very favoured decade, and there's not so few albums from the 60's I like very much.

I've never had a poster of Jimi Hendrix on my wall, but I did once have a HUGE poster of Olivia Newton John on my bedroom wall. Smile

Cool video, and I could tell a lot of appreciation for Jimi Hendrix but I guess this isn't the right place. But I want to tell so much that my favoured release concerning him is by Sunday Times, 10 tracs Performed Live at the Royal Albert Hall , and the video made of it is really enjoyable as well.

And quite funny with Olivia Newton John - regarding your present musical taste.

I have very broad tastes in music, with Mary Chapin Carpenter being my current country favourite, and who can forget Olivia when she teamed up with ELO for Xanadu. Thumbs Up

Yes, it's funny how I have an unfortunate habit of loving the albums that everyone loves to hate. Big smile

Lots of great records in this second list: Wobbler, QVL, Maxophone, Neal Morse, Discipline, Chris Squire, UK, Gryphon, etc.

Given the "one per artist" criteria, it just goes to show how many great Prog bands are out there for people to explore.

If looking at the national characteristics for the 00's, which were most prolific next after the 70's, and for the whole
160 list, the statistics say:
USA 11 bands in all, UK and N 4, S 3, CAN 2, PL, NL, Rom, Isr, J and D 1 each

When then compared to the 70's, USA seems to have become very much the most prolific nation instead of UK,
which though together with Norway and partly Sweden still was one of the most prolific.

^^When that is seen together with the results of my another top list,  http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=128935" rel="nofollow - Top 50 of the 2010's as rated on RYM and PA  ,
which are

USA 15 bands in all, UK 9, S and N 7, Aust 4, CAN and F 2, PL, NL, D, Rus, HUN, FIN, B, Tun and J 1 each

it seems to show that USA has been the most prolific Prog nation in the last two decades
- that is though of course when using my Prog definition.
