It's time to Focus more Light on the subject of Dutch Prog by selecting our own personal Top 12 albums from a Cargo-load of Dutch masters. Welcome to the Machine, as they're just one of the 57 varieties of  artists from the classic golden years of Dutch Prog (some of whom disappeared without Trace after releasing just one album). There's an Avalanche of great music to Sustain the interest, varying from the gentle folk of Chimera and  Flairck, to the jazzy sound of Alquin, the symphonic splendour of Earth and Fire and the hard rocking sound of Golden Earring. Vive la Differences! It's all here. It turned out to be an almost impossible task to choose a Top 10, so the ideal Solution seemed to be to Spin it out and make it a Top 12 to give this poll more Scope. There's a vast Pantheon of Ekseptional Dutch Prog out there just waiting to be explored on the internet and it's all available totally Tax Free

My Top 12 Dutch Prog Albums (so far) Smile

My 5-star favourite by Flairck is "Kamers/Chambers" which is worth checking out if you haven't already heard it. Smile

Supersister - Present for Nancy
Earth and Fire - March of the Marching Children
Association P.C. Earwax
Supersister - To the Highest Bidder
The Chris Hinze Combination - Mission Suite
Alquin - Marks
Jasper van't Hof - The Selfkicker
Het Pandorra Ensemble - III
Supersister - Pudding En Gisteren
Association - Sun Rotation
Mr. Albert Show - Warm Motor
Earth and Fire - Earth and Fire

...and that's pretty much all I got

Edit: I removed tech-thrashers Cryptosis, which I was surprised to stumble over at PA. I love their album (Bionic Swarm), but I don't really think it belongs here in this context. Besides I remembered Jasper Van't Hof is Dutch, and included my favorite album by him instead.

I'm not really qualified here as I don't know enough, but some others have posted lists with albums from four bands only, so chances are I'm not alone. I'm doing it because my favourite Dutch band KONG is missing up to now; I'll just amend their discography with a few other albums I know... (I also know Ekseption and Flairck, but I don't like them that much. and I'll put Association P.C. in despite not being sure about whether they should count as Dutch.)

Association P.C. - Erna Morena
Kong - Phlegm
Kong - Earmined
Jan Akkerman - Live Montreux
Kong - FreakControl
Kong - Merchants of Air
Focus - Hamburger Concerto
Jan Akkerman - s/t
Kong - Push Comes to Shove
Supersister - To the Highest Bidder
Association P.C. - Sun Rotation
Kong - Stern

Nice list and thread however I noticed you only have 2 entries from after 1987. Do you really not like any Dutch prog that much from the last 35 years or so?

^ No, it's simply that there aren't enough hours in the day to listen to everything and I've mainly been featuring Dutch artists from the golden era in my Classic Clog Prog Blog. I'm currently on the letter "F" for Focus, so I still have a long way to go to reach the end of the alphabet. Smile

Still can't get into Earth And Fire.

Hi,

I don't dislike them at all, but the album that is best for my ears is TO THE WORLD OF THE FUTURE which is more interesting but still shows a band trying to work with the girl singer or not. I don't think they ever cleared that up, although her voice was really important in their start.
