I´ve found the comparative forums very entertaining. They push fans of either side to really write down emotions and thoughts in a more personalized fashion.

I´d llike to read your thoughts on the "Can-utility and the coastliners" comparision to "South side of the sky". They are rather different in style and sound indeed. However, the profile is about the same I think.

I consider these songs have been a little overlooked and underrated. Still, I find them both very entertaining, fresh, original, full of ideas, creativity, colourful, energy and passion.  What do you think?, do you have a favourite?

I actually was not trying to make a competition of these songs. So just have fun choosing a song.

South side of the sky. It's great. Was brilliant live on stage last year as well.

Er... to be honest I don't know the other track....

Phil. "Can utility" is a "foxtrot" song....I was right, it´s been overlooked. I´m sure you´ve heard it before.

They're both great songs and, as you say, a little overlooked and underrated, which is not surprising considering the company they are in.

Anyway, South Side has the edge for me (no pun intended).

'Can Utility..' is one of the best Gabriel era Genesis songs IMO. So I vote for that.

As much as I like Yes, 'South Side of the Sky' is not among my favourites.

"South Side Of The Sky" for me, it knocks off "Can-Utility..." mainly for the middle part with Wakeman's eerie piano.

Can-Utility is by far my fav on Foxtrot, a  true underrated gem if there ever was one.

South Side of the Sky has a great sounding title but music-wise it has failed to leave much of an impression on me whenever I have heard it on Fragile -which hasn't occurred that often, to be fair so perhaps I ought to give it another try.

A bonus audio cd comes with the Spock's Beard-Don't Try this at Home:Live/The Making of V 2 DVD set.The cd contains demos and live acoustic stuff. The first track is an excellent studio cover of Southside of the Sky,over 9 minutes long.Very good cover IMO.

I don't remember the "Can utility", but "south side" is one of Yes better pieces.

I'm not sure I understand the logic between comparing two distinctly different pieces of music. Both are classic and flawless compositions, i've cast my vote however for can-utility only because i've always felt this song is really genesis in a nutshell, containing each and every ingredient that made genesis a great band and all under six minutes! quite an achievement... this would be probably the first genesis track I would pplay to a non-initiated for all the reasons above.
Peace.
