Two darkly haunting (or hauntingly dark) films from the '90s.

The protagonists of both the movies are trying to escape from eerie and alien worlds.

Pick your favourite!

I saw these two movies long ago, I'd have to watch them for a fresh memory to vote, so no vote for now... Embarrassed

I've seen Dark City only. It would have been great without the first 5 minutes. It explains too much.
Imagine it starting from the finding of the corpse, so one has to wonder in which kind of city they are and the role of the bad guys.

Cut the first minutes out and it will be great.

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Both. I love the psychedelic road trip to the cursed town from In the Mouth of Madness.

Dark City originally started with the corpse, but the bigwig studio bosses didn't trust Dark City's audience to figure it out. So, they retroactively inserted narration at the beginning of the movie.

I went for both but even though they both could be considered underground movies "In the Mouth of Madness" really does deserve a wider audience IMHO.

Not on the top of my lists, but of these two I'd choose Dark City.
