We reached the Random Album Clash FINALS! Thanks to everyone who participated throughout all of these, that have been going on for more than half a year now!
We arrive at the final poll where we have the six winning albums for each decade covered.
You know the drill, vote for the album you think should win and then comment who you voted for.

I will kick things off by voting for 'The Power to Believe', as it happens to be my favorite of the six albums that reached this stage.

Here are some stats from the 'semi-finals':
-The six polls got a total of 368 votes, with the 70s one getting the whopping 75!
-The poll with the least votes is the 60s one with just 48 votes
-Four albums almost qualified for the finals, as they were just one vote behind the winners; these are, of course, 'So' by Peter Gabriel, 'Fear of a Blank Planet' by Porcupine Tree, 'A Trick of the Tail' by Genesis, and 'Animals' by Pink Floyd
-The finalist who collected the most votes during the semi-finals of the RAC series is 'Hybris' with 17 votes, followed closely by 'Revolver' with 15 and 'Octopus' with 14

Another final note, I have some expectations in terms of how the albums will rank in this final poll, but I will not share them yet, as I would not want to even have the possibility to influence the voting in any way.

The winner will be announced on 04/06 at 16:10 CET, after exactly one week's time for voting!

30 votes in and the contest seems to be between Gentle Giant and Rush with GG being just a hair ahead.

Apart from Hybris, I like all these albums, but for me The Power to Believe tops them all...

As much as I love Giant, I have to give my vote to Rush.

40 votes in and Rush edge out Gentle Giant for the first time!
The contest was pretty tight in the 70s and in the 80s polls, and this continues on here!

I can now safely say that my expectations for the top two are met but I have no idea who will win. Let's see!

All decent albums but Revolver is iconic for me...but then Im old........
Octopus has Advent .. and River...2 from them I really like but the rest of the lp doesn't grab me that much.
Rush has Sawyer, Limelight and Camera Eye..the rest are just ok...
Revolver is simply iconic on every single track ,,,,maybe they should have done a 5 minute version of Tomorrow Never knows to get the win.....Wink

Usual report is coming: 50 votes in and things are beginning to look very good for 'Octopus'!
We still have four days of voting, so anything could happen.

Must say that none of the albums I voted for in any of the decade polls made its way to the finals ^^' .

I went for Octopus (that seems to be currently tied with Pink Floyd in the 70's poll).

Since Revolver is the greatest popular album of all time I'm going to bypass it and vote for Big Big Train ahead of Gentle Giant.

I'm disappointed to find that I only have one of these albums (Rush).  I have English Electric Full Power.  Never heard any Gentle Giant or Anglagard.  Only own the Beatles Number 1's album!

So I can't vote.....

You can! No limitations like 'you have to know each album in the poll by heart'.

Giant. Revolver is a great album, but Octopus is the one I'm most likely to pick up and play.

A peculiar observation: All the albums featured on the finals poll (except 'Revolver', which should not count, as we started from 1964) were released in the first three years of the featured decades... Does this indicate the forum users consider the first halves of the decades stronger in terms of musical output?

*'A Love Supreme' that represented 1964 was not too close to winning the 60s poll though!

I think this is not decade-wise but general. Starting from 1968-71 or so when "prog" started, people can more easily agree on older stuff. Some here live in the past, some others don't live in the past but more recent tastes are far more diversified, so generally older stuff has more potential to pick up many votes. If this is how it is, by implication it also means that we should expect albums from earlier years in each decade doing better - without having anything in particular to do with the decade

Some final hours going on for this FINALS poll, and after 59 votes being cast, it seems 'Octopus' will be the big winner after all the polls, weeks, and months! Smile

Album Octopus, Gentle Giant | Qobuz: download and streaming in high quality

Gentle Giant's 'Octopus' (1972) can now be pronounced the winner of the Random Album Clash poll series!
Congratulations, a fantastic album and a well-deserved win! Many thanks to all the forum users that participated throughout all of these and helped to make these series quite enjoyable, I hope you all enjoyed them, too!

I have some other similar ideas for a long-running poll series in the future, and if time allows me to, I will start developing them! As for now, prog on and enjoy good music!

...And don't forget to spin 'Octopus' today! Wink

Tough call between moving pictures and revolver. I just chose revolver cause it has less votes.
