RAC 2/3 for this week is dedicated to 1988 - a pretty strong year for heavy metal and not so much for progressive rock but I tried to make it as random as I could; pick your favorite album of these 15 and tell us who you picked. I will go for Metallica's bass-less but excellent release '...And Justice for All'. LOL

Loads of great albums there, but most I came to after the fact. Maiden I was in love with at the time, and the rose tinted nostalgia, along with it being a Damnation fine album, means they knock every other album out of contention for me.

If I ignored Maiden, and the historical love I have for that album compared to the rest of the albums I love, but came to later, this becomes a much harder question to answer. 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

Talk Talk and Cardiacs are the outstanding choices here. Vote for Cardiacs on the mood of the day.

That was a tough one between Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Queensryche.  Decided to go with Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.  Class of 1988 rules!

Cardiacs, although Queensryche came close!
And 'Ram it down' is alright. 'Hard as iron' elevates it a bit.
I must have listened to that song a hundred times when I first heard it.

For me it's between three very different bands: Queensrÿche, Cardiacs and Dead Can Dance. The Serpent's Egg is maybe the most unique of these albums...

ThisClap. A masterpiece of an album that needs as much love as it can get. On the other hand, Seventh Son... has never been a favourite of mine. The Voivod and Queensryche albums are much more up my street in metal terms.

Shocked to see I'm the first to vote for It BitesShocked wonderful album!

Great year though, agreed.  ...And Justice For All was the first really heavy album I bought and I still love it.

King's X first album (Out Of The Silent Planet) is another masterpiece from this year.  Maiden, David Lee Roth, Helloween, Living Colour; hell, even Bon Jovi made a decent album that yearEmbarrassed

But the one everyone loves and I can't get on with is Queensryche....

Maiden, Cardiacs or Talk Talk? I could not foresee any of these winning but this is why these polls are interesting! Little time for the winner to be clear. Smile

That’s quite funny, because they’re easily my top three. Cardiacs is the album I think should be my favourite, and would be my favourite, if I hadn’t had Iron Maiden since I was a wee sprog. I like it more than I would if I had come across it at the same time as Cardiacs.

I don't know why I missed this poll from March, 2021. Ill go with The Serpent's Egg over A Little Man and A House and the Whole World Window and Spirit of Eden. Those three would make my personal non-random list of 1988 albums.
