Someone has probably done this in the past but I don't remember seeing it recently.
I wanted to take some of my favorite albums & put the songs in order of preference starting with Moving Pictures.
It would be fun to do a series of these so feel free to start a thread with some of your favorite albums!

This is hard because I like every track on the album but here goes:

  1. The Camera Eye
  2. YYZ
  3. Limelight
  4. Red Barchetta
  5. Vital Signs
  6. Tom Sawyer
  7. Witch Hunt

1. The Camera Eye (Epic and brilliant)
2. Red Barchetta (Yes it's played a lot, but it remains one of my favorites.  Love the lyrics and the action in the music)
3. YYZ (A solid Rush instrumental)
4. Witch Hunt (It's interesting how I love this one because of it's synths, one of the best uses of them during this period of transition for the band.  Also, it's epic)
5. Tom Sawyer (It gets lower in the list because it is played so much)
6. Limelight (Same as Tom Sawyer - played too much)
7. Vital Signs (This track to me is an indication of where Rush was going next)

I'm experiencing a bit of deja vu here. :P

Anyway, here we go:

The Camera Eye
YYZ
Witch Hunt
Limelight
Tom Sawyer
Red Barchetta
Vital Signs

Not that I really have to defend my order but I chose certain songs lower than they might normally be because they have been overplayed. Limelight I never get sick of though and Red Barchetta is pretty overrated imo(even though it has cool lyrics). Witch Hunt I like because of the cool synth sections. Vital signs just never did much for me so it comes in dead last. It has grown on me a little bit over time though.

1. Witch Hunt
2. The Camera Eye
3. Tom Sawyer
4. Red Barchetta
5. YYZ
6. Limelight
7. Vital Signs

Note: Ranks 3-6 in this list may alternate at any moment. More or less a tie.

Pretty much the album order is my preference. The Camera Eye is not as good as Natural Science so if you could swap those two round you would somehow have an even more brilliant album if that is at all possible. Also I will never get bored with Tom Sawyer!!

Ouch
as far as I know I'm allowed to have an opinion on stuff , unless we are now living in some totalitarian state straight out of a Rush 1976 epic.

Not yet, but as far as I can observe, we're rapidly heading towards something like that. So let's ventilate our humble opinions while we still can. Wink

Out of a 1976 Rush epic or indeed 1984. One is allowed to hold any opinion, but that doesn’t mean that one should express every opinion, and that one can’t expect consequences when one expresses an opinion.   Sometimes it’s not so much about what one says but how one says it. Sometimes the content breaks rules and so on. I can think of quite a few opinions that potentially could get one turfed from this site (not that that is one of them). ‘Tis a good thing that we don’t yet have the thought police, but speech police, they do exist.   This would be a good discussion for the free speech thread.

“No his mind is not for rent
To any god or government
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren't permanent
But change is...”

As for the order, don’t know, been many years since I last listened to the album. YYZ would be number one, though.

Red Barchetta, YYZ, and Camera Eye are among my favorite Rush songs so those are my 1,2, and 3. The only question is what order should they be in Confused

1 - The Camera Eye
2 - Red Barchetta
3 - YYZ
Although, on any other day the order could, and would, be rearranged.

4 - With Hunt
5 - Tom Sawyer
6 - Limelight
7 - Vital Signs
Limelight and Tom Sawyer suffer (for me) from overexposure but there is truly no bad, or even subpar song on Moving Pictures.
