I use the word when talking about visual aspects of anything, especially when discussing its favorable appearance.

I wouldn't define such terms outside the scope of the academical world. In the Google world, it is already within one's grasp. Time to use your fingertips!

P.S. I'm not trying to be offensive. I just find most of "what's your definition?" type of inquiring worthless, when it comes to the scientific and academical stuff and where it requires some serious specialization.

Definitions of words can be easily looked up as has already been pointed out in several posts. If you want someone to make up their own definition, thats just misinformation.
Possibly what you really want to ask is "what aspect of aesthetics are important or appealing to you".

A favorable appearance based on a populist view.

Hi,

It is a strange, if not weird question, I think ... but I'm not sure what he is asking for or looking for.

All in all, the public forums of any kind, do not have any aesthetics whatsoever, and even mentioning it is going to get more replies that are often insulting and as vapid and empty as one can imagine.

The only aesthetics that I can understand are my own ... just be honest and true!

Think I haven't done it already? The point was to see how different people's definition of 'aesthetics' deviates from the general consensus of what 'aesthetics' are, and possibly see other perspectives, as the term is in a way open to interpretation, if you ask me.
Why do it here? Well, when my 'target group' consists of people who appreciate good music and are able to find the virtuosity and complexity compelling, then they would certainly have a thing or two about aesthetics on their mind.

I honestly didn't literally mean "your fingertips", while saying it. It was meant to be the continuation of "one's grasp". I feared that it could be understood as directed towards you, and that happened. Wink

Perhaps I should've said "the fingertips" instead...

1. Three hassocks stacked on top of each other and wired with sets of small windshield wipers on each side of each hassock.

Sentence: That's a nice aesthetics you have in your living room.

2. The aftermath of a dododox.

Sentence: Holy crap! Bring the paper towels. There's an aesthetics in the men's room again!

3. The act of increasing the quantity of hydrogen sulfide in an enclosed area.

Sentence: Who aesthetics in here? Not me!

I think you're a bit besides the point here: it is also about the feathers on the upper shelve of the lawnmower.

Never took your reply as personally directed. In fact, I do get your point quite well. And with that being said, I honestly think your initial comment does not bring much essence to what could have been an interesting discussion.

^You took it "as personally directed", otherwise your reply would/should have been different. I don't see a fertile soil for fruitful discussions to sprout or a solid ground to "build" sound idea structures, in your thread. Anyway...

Right... Really don't want to end this on a sour note, so cheers sir! To each his own, as someone said some time ago...
