and which do you prefer?...I only have experience with EL34's until recently when I got a Laney GH100L and the Laney takes both (with a switch for auto-biasing)-

I the http://https://www.stereoshore.com/el34-vs-6l6/" rel="nofollow - 6L6 's sound like they have more umph (low end) while the EL34's like to scream more to my ears...

I have no experience with guitar amps....but had a friend who had tube amp for hi fi and it used EL34s. He used to roll Mullards, JJ Electronics and Electro harmonic. We always preferred the mullards due to a beefier low end.
I have a DAC with tube out buffer and prefer JJ tubes due to a nicer low end.....so I guess it depends.

"It depends which sound you like".

There is therefore no correct answer.

I have a guitar amp (Egnater Rebel-20) with both 6L6 and EL84 power tubes and a knob that lets me switch between them and blend them. I honestly couldn't tell you the difference between them; maybe I just don't crank my amp enough to really hear it.
