I have A Curious Feeling you're going to like Tony Banks' solo albums, no matter whether it's one of his Soundtracks such as The Wicked Lady, or one of his classical compositions such as Five, Six Pieces for Orchestra, or even Seven: A Suite for Orchestra. his debut album is a must listen only. Listen to the rest if you are curious. I haven't listened to his last three albums though, classical compositions I believe, nor do I plan to anytime soon.

Only one I have is the first...on original vinyl....have heard pieces from the later ones but they really don't grab me much. Well played and recorded but to me the music is bland. ------------- One does nothing yet nothing is left undone. Haquin |

Tony Banks' first album is really the only one worth having, unless you enjoy his three classical albums too, as I do.

| Personally I don't think any Tony Banks album is worth 5 stars. Same with Mike Rutherford and Anthony Phillips. They work best as collaborators. The three are great artists but they can't do what the other three (Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett and Phil Collins) can do working alone. |

I was listening to Tony Banks' three superb classical albums and I couldn't help thinking, if only he'd recorded music like that with Genesis in the 1980's & 90's.

Because it wouldn't have fit in with the sort of music that Phil Collins was doing. I think Tony Banks lost more than the others when Peter Gabriel left the band as those two wrote a lot of music together.

A Curious Feeling: Some excellent moments musically, but the lyrical subject matter was far too depressing. I no longer own this album. The Fugitive: A 5-star masterpiece - love it, love it, love it! Soundtracks: Really good, but somewhat monochromatic in a mid-1980's way. Bankstatement: Above average, but a few clinkers. Also not happy with the track sequencing. Still: Below average - a few interesting moments. Seven: Works well as a suite, but could have used a little editing.

Maybe I should give The Fugitive another listen, seeing as I only gave the album a modest 3-star rating after listening to it twice, although I'm more often accused of overrating albums.

There's also an 8-disc Tony Banks box set available, titled "Banks Vaults 1979-1995". You'd probably need to visit the bank to buy that one though as it's about £65 or $100.

When writing this I hadn't yet listened to his soundtrack albums and since then I've developed a small fondness for the soundtrack to The Wicked Lady (a film I've never seen and don't have a particular interest in seeing).
