This is a question that a known local musician asked me, and i want to share it with you...

To you, What's the most fascinating part of playing?

To me, two things... The odd-time signatures (and all kinds of broken rhythms) and the greatest musical adventure, IMPROVISATION!...

What would be your answer?

 Learning!

I love siting with my instruments and just playing, and figuring out all these systems and connections between things. Just pure experimentation is so great.
I love being taught about music theory becase it opens so much to my composition..which brings me to answer number two

Composition!

I love it!, working with harmonies andpeaks and valleys...discorandce..time sigs...i love it alll

Emotional expression

Music is the numberone medium for self expression...it acts as such a great escape form problems and lets you get your anger out, but also allows you to express your happiness

its all great

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

1.) Composing songs

I love writing songs with odd-time signatures.

Besides I really like to sit down with a friend of mine who also plays guitar and write songs with him.

2.) Playing live

Well, what shall I say... It's a real great feeling when you play your stuff life together with your band and the people like it.

3.) Learning new stuff

It is a great feeling to learn new things and to see how you slowly become better and better...

uuhhh...EVERYTHING!! i don't care if I'm reading a jazz walk, improvising one, free-form improvising, playing along to "Gates of Delerium", or whatever, it's all good.

Discovering. Discovering anything. Anything that will help me further my spectrum. It could be little licks or riffs, it could be a developement in my technique, anything.

Also the fact that it helps me get away from the world, so to speak. I can just get lost in the instrument for a bit.

The most fascinating part of playing to me is that "sweet spot", when whatever you're playing, whether solo or with a band, just comes together, expresses what you need it to and flows.

The ultimate scenario for this is when you're playing in front of an audience and not only can you tell that you've hit that spot from your own playing experience, but the audience reaction comes at you in waves.

A bit "fluffy", I know - but that's the most fascinating thing about it - you can't plan for it and you can't force it to happen - it just does.

Yes. When I find an unusual chord or some things I can add to my band, I'm really happy.

Rocking out with my cock out.

over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.

feed my will to feel this moment, urging me to cross the line.

reaching out to embrace whatever may come.

Composing/improvising endless pieces of music and wandering for a journey into the world that the music takes me.

  • music sounds better when I'm playing it, seriously
  • learning new stuff (interesting chord progressions, odd melodies etc.)
  • playing live builds character
  • get drunk and chill
