Eleven GREAT 21st Century albums performed in the Canterbury style. (Amoeba Split only has two albums out--and Magic Bus has a new one coming out in June.) And I know: the Antique Seeking Nuns albums qualify more as EPs than full-length albums but, there you have it.

ANTIQUE SEEKING NUNS:

HOMUNCULUS RES:

AMOEBA SPLIT:

MAGIC BUS:

Thanks for the prod, Logan!

I'm not familiar with Magic Bus but the rest are all great with ASN being my absolute favorite here. I adore all three EPs so could vote for any of them, I'll go for the first one.

Wonderful poll. Magic Bus is the one I'm least familiar with. I have the debut albums by the others and have listened to various other music.

For me it is between Homunculus Res' Limiti all’eguaglianza della parte con il tutto and Amoeba Split's Dance of the Goodbyes.

I may feel a little split about this, but right know I'm feeling that Amoeba and seemingly it's feeling me too, and it feels good (please don't judge my lifestyle). So, based on the albums I know well, it's Dance of the Goodbyes for me.

Great choices! Also my top two from this poll.

Again, thanks, Logan, for the inspiration with your classic area non-Brit "Canterbury" style bands poll. Sounds like we're on the same wavelength.

Also forgot to mention (you probably already know): the boys in Homunculus Res are prepping for a new release of their own. Last I heard (before the COVID mess) they were shooting for an April launch. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

I wanted to breathe a little more culture into this polls forum. A lot of such music doesn't get as much attention as I would like -- ultimately, just cause I like it so much and it's nice to have others around who like the same kind of music. I'm glad to see this poll. I didn't know about the new release, or if I did I'd forgotten (strange days). That is something to look forward to. I'll be keeping my well-washed fingers crossed.

I don't know if they come into the 'Modern Canterbury' type sound but I think Lapis Lazuli kinda fit into this area.. sorry, its a bit of a distraction from the poll but i'm keen to learn and hear more of these contemporary 'Canterbury' sounding bands!

Ok, ive done some delving and listening and I’m loving all three bands (I’m already familiar with Magic Bus) but I must say that I am particularly digging Homunculus res and Amoeba Split. I turns out I am familiar with Antique seeking Nuns (through the Sanguine Hum connection) and I really like what I heard but I am just so flipped out by the flutes, saxes and general jazz soaked joy of HR and AS.. Not trying to copy those classic bands but just harnessing the power of those super sunshine sounds- and boy, do I need that right nowWink

I was so impressed that I even found the vinyl copies of the Amoeba split lps on Ebay (in Spain).. a bit pricey but you know, I might just treat myself!!SmileClap

yes - Magic Bus are the most convincing ‘modern’ Canterbury band to me - Transmission from Sogmore’s Garden is a classic. That fuzzy L100 is a dead-ringer to David Sinclair.

Good question! Their second album--appearing out of the blue 6 years after their debut--was a 2016 surprise. Perhaps they have another one up their (other) sleeve!
