                                     CONCEPT

                                    (inspired by a similar topic)

Yes. We like a lot the concept albums made by our favourite bands, right?

Sometimes, writing a "Concept" is one of the main feature or aim of our beloved Prog Musician (from "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" to "The Human Equation", from "Days Of Future Passed" to "Brave").So, let's create a personal concept album, about everything you want, following these simple rules:

  • you should give a title to your concept
  • you should write, as a minimum (if you want ), three song titles (related to the concept name)
  • you should not  copy (here and there) from other (already existing) concept
  • you should hope that one day someone really do an album about the same concept you wrote, so you can tell him that you have the copyright on it !
  • at some point in the topic, you should vote for the best one, in your opinion, so we can see the winner!

So, this is an example, my personal concept, it is called MISPLACED CHILDHOOD and it tells my personal story about...

Ok, there goes mine: it is called "CHANGING THE WORLD": it's the story of the most important events happened on planet earth since it was created. Songs list:

  1. Introduction : Chaos - The four elements  (I said important, so what's more important than the Creation itself?)
  2. Prometeus - The stolen fire (discovery of fire)
  3. Painting signs on the wall (discovery of writing)
  4. The art of thinking (birth of Philosophy)
  5. The art of being a conqueror (about the colonisations and the wars during the Roman empire)
  6. The Year 0 (the Birth of Christ )
  7. The end of the world? pt. 1 (the year 1000 and the Medieval age)
  8. 1492 (The title says it all)
  9. Innovations pt. 1 (great discoveries before the war)
  10. Why are you killing our brothers, God? (About World War I and II)
  11. Innovations pt. 2 (post war life and discoveries)
  12. The Stars are not so far away (about the first man on the Moon and the beginning of the Space era)
  13. Millennium Bug? (Internet and... you know what I mean)
  14. The end of the world? (aka second Middle Age) pt. 2 (from year 2000)
  15. The Eternal Wheel Of Seasons (ending and closing track)

Bonus Track:

  1. Great Men on a Small Earth (reunion track about the most important men and their inventions: a long, speedy, "progressive" track through the ages of man's life on planet Earth  )

Sure it is a two discs set!!!

Come on now, I want see lots of your ideas and how you can use your imagination! I'm very curious about your way of writing a concept album! Good Luck!

Great idea.  All I can come up with re song titles are the first and last tracks:

First track:  Overture

Last track:  Finale, or Epilogue, something like that

Mine would be called "Trout Mask Replica is a cruel prank and so is this."

1. Captain Beefheart is Born (Beefheart and Zappa abort some movie probably because they couldn't stop laughing long enough to make it, the track would be various snippets of Beefheart and Zappa just laughing, 10 minutes long at least)

2. What's a Trout Mask Replica? (the track would be Beefheart and Zappa talking nonsense for 15 minutes and no mention of a Trout Mask Replica)

3. The World is a Friendly Place (various grunts made by people having sex, this goes on for about 5 minutes)

4. They're Just Laughing at You (another 10 minutes at least of Zappa and Beefheart laughing)

Frankly I think my concept album is brilliant.

Also a death (?)

Ok how about this…

TO DREAM A LIFETIME – this is about (influenced by a book btw) a prison at a death camp in WWII in some frigid place like Poland, and he is struggling to survive. He is forced to march with a group of prisoners for miles and miles to await his final death. Throughout the story he watches bombs explode in the air and all around, he sees other prisoners get shot on sight for not keeping up or something small like that, he watches other prisoners get taken away in while they are sleeping to be executed, he awaits a demon/guard to kill him at any moment, and he suffers pain for the "never ending night". To Dream A Lifetime refers to his escape into dreams and dazes while he marches to rid himself of the horror and the pain - but these dreams feel like a lifetime, for the miles and miles of marching seems to never ending, it seems to be an eternity.

The first track would open the album mysteriously but calm almost like “Pigs On The Wing”. It’d go something like:

Among the moonlit night

I stared into the darkness

An endless void

We were hypnotized and

under a moonlit trance

Awaiting our final demise

While the last track would close the album with something like:

Among the moonlit night

I stared into the darkness

An endless void

We were hypnotized but

overcame the moonlit trance

Escaping in night’s disguise

1. Moonlit Trance Pt. I (1.39)

2. Sparks of Twilight (8.28)

3. The Icy March (6.39)

4. Frost & Snow (instrumental) (4.48)

5. Silent Slumber (7.22)

6. The Invisible Assassin (11.46)

7. Dissolution (6.53)

8. Never Ending Night (9.12)

9. Moonlit Trance Pt. II (1.23)

                Running Time: 58.02

o.k.  This is from a science fiction novella that I wrote about 10 years ago and a few years ago decided I'd love to turn it into a concept album.  Still working on it.  The story is as follows:

A man sits all alone on the beach.  Tears are streaming down his cheeks from the guilt that he feels about what he has wrought on mankind.  Our "hero" is an old man, alone and dying, waiting until he takes his last breath, knowing that when he does, it will be the last breath any man (or woman if we're going to be pc about the whole thing) will ever take.  He thinks back on his life.

70 years ago, when he was still a young man, full of life and an underlying belief in the human spirit, it happened.  Aliens appeared from out of nowhere.  They offered us unlimited resources.  They offered us cures for cancer.  They offered us a way of life beyond war, beyond petty greed and beyond the cultural barriers that define human existence.  They asked only one thing in return.  That we accept their leadership and allow them to lead us into a new age.  Most were swayed by this and fell in line to not only follow our new friends, but to worship them as gods.  But a few were not swayed.  A few thought this would crush the human spirit and were paranoid that these aliens wanted to turn us into slaves.  They fought back.  Our "hero" was foremost among them.  He rallied those who believed as he did.  He even converted some of those who had been swayed by the alien presence, and turned them into humanists.

And the ones who were turned back to the light, convinced their friends to turn back to the light, and the movement grew.  Once the movement grew big enough, the freedom fighters turned on their alien "masters" and began killing them in numbers.  The aliens had nothing to fight back with.  They had expected a peaceful surrender.  But that was not to be, so the alien presence called on the leaders of the resistance to discuss a truce.  The aliens agreed to leave the planet for good, but wanted one thing in return.  They wanted our "hero" to come with them.  They assured him and his followers that he would not be harmed.  He agreed and was taken aboard their ship, where they all left the planet earth and humanity returned to the existence it had previously known.  Meanwhile our "hero" was well-treated and for the next 10 years he was shown around the galaxy courtesy of his hosts.  Then he was returned to earth and dropped off rather unceremoniously.

The earth was a barren wasteland.  The aliens must have destroyed earth and abrogated their agreement.  But over the next 30 years that he was marooned on this dead planet, he discovered that it was not the aliens who destroyed the earth, but man himself.  A war had broken out a few years after the aliens left.  The war to end all wars.  Literally.  And when he found that out, it struck him that had he not fought back.  Had he not had such faith in the human spirit.  Had he allowed us to be led into a new golden age, man would still be alive.  He had destroyed humanity.  And he would die knowing it was all his fault.

The songs:

On the Beach (7:35) (yes this is named after the old sci-fi movie)

We Come in Peace (6:18)

All Our Sorrows (8:00)

Resistance (28:44): i. An Uneasy Feeling; ii. The Human Spirit; iii.  The Resistance Grows; iv. End of Your Reign; v. War; vi.  A Piano Interlude in the Midst of the Chaos; vii.  Strong Words for Such a Weak Being; viii.  Bye Bye Birdie

The Deal (3:19)

10 Years (9:47)

What the Hell Have I Done (10:04)

And for bonus tracks.  In case anyone was thinking I was being too serious here:

1.  The Doc Goes in Search of Some Tail (4 years, 9 months, 3 days, 13 hours and 4:14)

2.  The Doc Gets Some Tail (0:35) (Cause that's all it takes)

3.  The Doc Gets B-Slapped (2:38)

Wow.  Two concepts all in one.    I'm the bomb.

All  I need is a guitarist, bass player, vocalist (cause I can't sing worth ****) and a drummer, and I also wrote some flute parts to it, so a flautist would be cool too.

Oops.  Forgot to give the title for my concept album.  The title of my novella was "Humanity's Hero".  And I see no reason to change that now.

I have two ideas for concept albums.  The first would be thematic rather than story-line based, and would look at apartheid in South Africa, looking at the effect it's had on individuals and also on events that have occurred.  The problem with this idea is that the lyrics would require a lot of work and research.  There's also the possibilty of including covers of songs like Peter Gabriel's Biko, which would fit in with the concept.

The second idea I have is a fantasy story about a race of people who are essentially mental vampires.  In order to survive, they need to take mental energy from other people, leaving their victims zombie-like, with just enough to do everyday things, but no imagination, dreams or ambitions.

The story starts with the last member of this race who has set himself up as a wealthy lord living near a village that he preys on.  News of the plight of the village reaches an adventurer, and he sets out to try and help them.  He encounters the lord and becomes very good friends with him, but eventually discovers that he is one who is terrorising the village, and he must make the decision as whether to kill his friend, or leave the village to suffer.

He ends up killing him, but is tormented by his decision, and retreats to a monastery where he plans to live out the rest of his life.  A few years after he has entered the monastery, the land in which he lives is attacked by a magical enemy who has returned after being defeated centuries ago.  In the monastery, the adventurer finds records of the previous attack, and finds out that the enemy was only defeated by a race of magically-powered people, and the last remaining member was the friend that he had killed.

As the evil forces threaten to overwhelm the land, the adventurer goes on a search for a dark magician who is able to transform him temporarily into a member of the race.  After a lengthy journey, he finds the magician, who makes the transformation, and he returns just in time to save his land from destruction.  He is hailed as a hero, but discovers that in the final battle the change became permanent, and so he is now forced to seek out people and feed on their mental energy.

I actually have written the lyrics for what would be the first three songs, but I haven't got any further (maybe because this is the first time I've put the story down in writing).

The name of the concept would be Thief of Dreams, and the first three songs are:
Fear - A description of the village and the problems they face
The Tyrant - The situation from the "villain's" point of view, explaining why he must prey on the village (it could probably do with a better title)
The Storyteller - News of the village reaches the adventurer

My band, Ligyrophobia, is currently working with the writing and arranging for their forthcoming demo-release. The workingtitle will be "End of our timeline", and will be a consept-album where the story takes place sometime in the future. "End of our timeline" will be a political album, and is a critic against the war in Iraq, and the way the American government have mistreated the people in Iraq.

The story takes place in the future, and the world is devided in only two countries; The easter union and The united states of the west. It forbidden for the two countries to have contact with each other. Any way, the story is that west will bomb the east and make the whole world one country. The people in the west belive this is only to protect them from the east, and don't see that the war is for personal winnings for the president.

The persons we follow is:

The president: Slick man, using propaganda to fool the people. A power-head, and quite evil.

General Gears: The presidents right hand, and head of the millitary opperation

Samuel Hjung: And imigrant from the eastern world. Sent to war as a soldier, and is ordered to bomb his old hometown. ends up killing the president.

Annalyn Dean: Lives in the east. In love with Sergj, which lives in the eastern world. Smugles a letter to sergj, where she tells about the forthcomming war.

Sergj Ibrahim: In love with annalyn. Decides to swim across the ocean to be with annalyn when the war breaks out. Ends up drowning, just minnutes before it is anounced that the war is canceled.

Songs:
http://www.freewebs.com/ligyrophobia/sounds/timeline.mid - End of our timeline
This is suposed to be the first track on the "End of our timeline" album. It is a straigt foreward rock song, where the president and the general holds a press conference, telling that they will go to war, and bomb the Eastern world

http://www.freewebs.com/ligyrophobia/sounds/feelings.mid - The feelings we share
The dramatic power ballad on the album. The first half is the letter annalyn sends to sergj, and the second, sung by sergj is when he decides to swim.

http://www.freewebs.com/ligyrophobia/sounds/reactions.mid - Reactions  (The End)
The grand finale! This is the track ment to end the album, and is a quite progressive track. This is where samuel refuse to obey his orders, and instead end up killing the president and the general, resulting in canceling of the war, before it is started.

This is our consept oiece. Somewhat cheesy, but it works.... Comments and sugestions is welcome.

In an English lesson I had today, we learnt the different stages of a play, to which I thought 'this would make for a great prog concept album!

TRACK 1: EXPOSITION (introduction of the main themes of the music- think 'Overture' from 'Tommy')

TRACK 2: DRAMATIC INCITEMENT (as the title suggests, a more atmospheric and dramatic piece)

TRACK 3: COMPLICATION (again, the title says it all- more complex music to convey this complication)

TRACK 4: CRISIS POINT (a highly dramatic and complex piece with much musical excitement)

TRACK 5: RESOLUTION (a calmer piece with a more simplistic flavour)

I would call it 'Playtime' or something like that!

Title: Sacred Cow ( a modern day Canterbury Faerie Tale)

Concept: obviously a Canterbury-ish romp through today's media driven society, where we meet Gibbs, a lower level manager in some sort of firm...clues will be given that it has to do with finance, marketing, etc...and it's ultimate aspiration, always referred to  as, "the firm's master plan." And of course, the firm's plans are nefarious. Gibbs unknowingly is a test subject of "the firm's master plan" as is his sex starved wife, Raeanne, her lover Vance, and Gibbs' children, an 18 year old "princess" named Vanessa and an 11 year old son, Ricky, with serious anger management problems. And of course not everyone lives happily ever after.....

Likely song titles:

Digital Anarchy
(My) Tongue in (Yr) Cheeks
The Wheezing Tree
Flat Earth Society
Kerosene for my I-Pod
Blues for McLuhan
Sacred Cows Make The Hamburger
Daisy Chain
The Great Oracle
Men behind the Curtain
The New Religion

Come on, we've  already been through all this!

It will have a overtly Celtic/Jethro Tull vibe with the eeriness of Radiohead's recent works.

It will also be VERY pertentious.

I have a feeling this is something you're working on.

From a true ordinary story

The Climbers

Ist moviment Approach

1.Hsin Nien the year of the tiger

2. L J Shan Middle of nowhere

3.Presence of the  Mountain

IInd Moviment Rise

4.Cold and hungry

5.The wheel

6.Presence of the Snow

IIIrd Moviment Walk

7. The Middle Temple

8. Dialog with no words

9. Presence of the Sun

IVth Moviment Reach

10. The Sleep

11. The narrow Path

12. Presence of the World

The story is  this: on the Chinese New year day(1.) we travel to the middle of an ancient Chinese Province(2). The evening we reached a place, a chain of mountains not too high but isoleted(3)

We spent the night on cold rooms(4). The morning job was to change one wheel  punched on the previous day(5). We reached the limit of the snow, we begin the trekk(6)

At the middle we meet an old Taoist temple(7), and an unexpected woodchopper meet us. He speaks a different dialect(8) The sun lights, we enter the forest (9). A short sleep and recovery (10) before the hardest part (11) and the final completion at the top of the mountain, and the contemplation (12)

It can be read under to perspectives: biographic and methaforic. The second is more prog.

Other interpretations (according to critics):the ascent the mistic approach to the  Revelation : Approach Rise Walk Reach

The Tao references (the middle Temple, the unexpected visit, the path)

Twelve experiences:

Time Place Aim Weakness Trouble Suffer Wisdom Friendship Hope Peace Strength Revelation

And more...

Bonus track the story of the little pocket bottle of wiskey we carried along with us to resist the cold winter, but this might be another concept, less spiritual, more spirit

First I must say my vote goes to Sirpsycho338 . A realy nice idea IMO.

I had no idea but while reading the posts I thought of something based on Anthony Queen's books. To those who are not familiar with him I will add that he is talking of how we (human beings) moved from hunting to agriculture and how that turned us to the only kind of animal who kills theirself and how we are destroying the world in our exponential growth.

It would be called "Kain & Able - from hunters to killeres"

1. The good life of a hunter

2. The discovery of seeding

3. The settling : a. staying in the same place

                          b. the invention of houses

                          c. the establishment of religion

4. The unavoidable fight : a. Kain's familly growth

                                         b. The killing of Able

5. Rulling & slavery

6. Wariors - killing as a profession

7. Classes - the poor gets poorer

8. The industrial revolution : a. working harder than ever

                                            b. the rebelion of the workers

                                             c. invention of nationality - the poors kill each other

                                                d. mass genocide

9. The end - the world is saved at last.

Wow, this is one of my favorite threads I have ever read through! Some great stuff here..

I especially like yours, T-Press. Just brilliant! I love how "I really should get up in a minute" is 18 minutes long, and all the smoke breaks scattered throughout the day were a great touch.

Here's a review of the album.. you can find it the latest Rolling Stone if you just look closely enough.. keep looking you'll find it eventually.

" Molvanian prog monsters Nietzcko Zcxercaz continue where Genesis' " The Lamb Lies on Broadway " left. They explore farther than Yes did with " Tales from Topographic Oceans " . As the band's vocalist and lyricist Zlad Bartel reveals, the band wanted to explore and expand their compositional skills as well as their musical talents.

"Of Shrouded Sorrow" is the band's fourth album. Their three first albums have all been electro-pop, but this album to me seems like a natural progression, since their electronic albums have always been highly intelligent and filled to the brim with strange song structures and weird psychedelic sonic attacks.

The regular synthesizers are replaced with waves of washing mellotrons and pulsating VCS-3 synthesizers. The band introduces a new guitarist on this album, Roberto Fricz, who is a highly talented young guitarist. The album also features a visiting flautist and Zlad Bartel himself plays some quite unconventional instruments, such as an accordium and a xylophone.

From track one we are treated with full-blown prog rock with free spirited signature changes and higly complex song structures flavoured with extended soloing and interesting vocal arrangements. The songs flow from gentle acoustic interludes to aggressive riffing and angry drumming yet again interrupted with mellotron, VCS-3 and Moog solos.

The whole album culminates in the monstrous multi-part half-hour epic "In Search of What Is" , which combinates all these aforementioned attributes and also revisits some of the album's main themes in a way only these Molvanian proggers are capable of.

The basic story of the album is about a man called Darkster Souldog who one morning wakes up from a palace in ancient Peru. In an epic quest to find his lost happiness and the meaning of life he has to fight his way through angry natives and come to terms with his gloomy past to find his way back home. What a splendid rock opera indeed! "

Thanks! I'm glad someone noticed the 18 minutes gag. Though I actually conceived it as nothing but a joke concept, I'm now beginning to think that it would be a brilliant idea for a real concept album. It'd need to be done in quite a quirky style, by a (preferably) British band, with a good blend of jazz and symphonic tendancies.

Reading that made me laugh for some time, and that's no mean feat on a college day! Particularly "Me Time" Part VIII, "I Really Should Get Up In A Minute" and "Alarm (Reprise)". I approve the idea of making it for real!

In my case I was generally using the track times as another source of humour. I liked the idea of the fag breaks all being exactly one minute in length, and the "Me Time" section being a big ol' epic. To be honest, I began imagining the kinds of moods/instruments/styles that would appear on different tracks... I just took the whole thing far too seriously.

I wrote a concept work entitled "A Butterfly's Story" based on the dreams of a friend, i have it all recorded here on my PC. The concept is about the similarities between the dream and real life... The Butterfly is really the woman he loves, she took a strange shape in his dream to tell him the things she can't tell him in the real world.

Tracklist:

1.- Overture (4:12)

2.- Butterfly Dream (6:18)

3.- The Failing God (5:42)

4.- How Much More? (11:17)

5.- Estridency (Instrumental) (7:18)

6.- The Fantasy Returns (8:33)

Amazing thread, Trouserpress is my clear winner. Can't think of a concept myself, but I definitely post something.

Back to Trouserpress, I could imagine reviews of "A Day in a Life Of Peter Lump" - "Progrock finally descended to cover everyday and common problems, instead of overlonged pompous suites concerning fairy tailes or hypnotherapies. The newest masterpiece of new progact called Peter Lump follows the thread of "Alan Psychedelic Breakfast" from obscure Pink Floyd album "Atom Heart Mother", and did a marvellous symphonic 3CD pieces concerning everyday routines such as waking up (ingenious 18 minutes long "I Really Should Wake Up In A Minute"), smoking, eating, leisure etc This album is a must. Prog rock is coming back, finally there is something interesting for people, not just prog nerds".

Trouserpress, I should quote what Brian Lane (Yes manager) told Trevor Horn "Why don't you become a f***ing producer?" No offense meant, but to the contrary. New Eddie Offord is born!!!

Mnemosyne, have you put this music on net and could you provide us with a link? I'm curious to hear this music!!

...Great Thread....very enjoyable read....the most fun I had on this forum in quite some time. A thumbs up for everyone who participated.

Doc....I love your bonus songs.

Trouserpress...extremely funny and creative. Bravo to you. PS....you smoke too much.

My concept is more of a theme based on break-up and the angst and despair one feels afterwards. All these songs exist in lyrical form and when I was actually in a band...two of them came to fruition.

Love Overture(long tune...20-30 minutes)

The Pit of Despair(a little shorter)...10-15 minutes

Sea of Sorrow(this one came to fruition) a little over 6 minutes

Internal Damnation...10-15  minutes

Festering Doom( Another one that came to fruition)...don't recall the time...my guess would be about 5 minutes.

Rabbit's Hunger...a shorty...pehaps about 4 minutes

not very original admittedly, but I was always a sucker for emotional lps like Misplaced Childhood and Clutching At Straws

Thank you... but I'm glad to say that Peter Limp and I have very little in common. I don't smoke at all (or drink, as it happens), I don't have a deadend job, I DO have a girlfriend and I don't watch telly all evening. Thank god.

Over-10-minute pieces always scare me...
And concept albums/big suites are often a letdown for me...

I prefer 7-8-minute-songs: they are plump enough to stuff in everything you need without becoming too boring

Great concepts folks! I'd truly like to listen to some ;)

With my band, we're planning a strange kind of concept album. Doing us mainly jam sessions, it's pretty difficult to do something like this, but it will sound like:

"Scenes from the Dark Side of the Wall"

It's a fantascientific concept, in which famous rock musicians will travel in the future to steal from us our tunes. We'll take famous riff (think of Smoke on the Water, Money, and so on), evolving from those in a completely different song - claming WE have composed those riffs, and not the musicians that got fame and money with them.

Just a funny idea :D

Oh, we were on different pages. I believe the main purpose of this thread is to just get some creative ideas for concept albums (Ex: themes, story...), not to actually write/create a concept album. Believe me, I'd love to make one eventually (as I've said on before in this thread), but I'll admit that I'm not yet ready. My theory and musicianship and songwriting are not yet cohesive nor developed enough for me to attempt to write a progressive rock album that I am truly proud of and satified with.

Hmm... Here's a short depressing one called "Apex Problems."

The Stories about a Poor Boy who one day meets a man who gives him water just before the boy dies. The boy is greatful his life was saved, and follows the man around. The man explains to him about a guy who supposidly is suppost to save the world from all evil. The Boy meets the Savior, and they secretly keep in touch throughout the boy's life. The Boy grows up, and decides to do what the Butcher Does, which he finds out is too kill people for doing terrible sins. The Boy kills one man, feels horrible for doing it, and goes into deep drugs to releive his stress.

The boy Falls in love and marries a girl who has helped him through his struggles, but is still hooked into drugs and is rapidly becoming more insane. The boy (who for all purposes will be called "bob") starts going to parties where he over a period of time becomes an alcohalic. His wife, get's fed up with him and secretly starts cheating on him, seeing as how bob won't go into rehab, and when he's not high or drunk, he's really great.

One day when Bob was returning to his home, he caught his wife cheating on him. Bob, not knowing what to do, took all the money he had and just left. He became a poor man, buying whatever drugs and alcohal he can, well still stalking his X-Wife, who he still loves and cares for deeply. His X develops cancer, and dies. One day well Bob was visiting her grave, he died do to a heart faliure.

Song titles:

1: Just a warning (1:37)
2: Butcher of Blasphemous Things (12:34)
3: The Knife of Regret (6:03)
4: Addiction (9:16)
5: The Watcher (3:29)
6: Wonder Me Again (3:10)

Here is my idea for a concept-album called "Nail"

Nail is a stand-in who sells vacuum cleaners in front of the housedoors. As you can see I thought my concept album could be about the life of vacuum cleaner-stand-ins.

I often asked myself how a vacuum cleaner-stand-in feels and what kind of problems he has (I know this is a bit crazy). So my concept-album is for all the vacuum cleaner-stand-ins out there. I use to play some of the following songs together with my band "Sir Cedrik".

Songlist:

1.) Nail 5:04
2.) Nobody 's opening 7:02
3.) Filthy dog 6:20
4.) At the doors 6:11
5.) Vacuum cleaner 5:47
6.) Back home 8:41
Bonus track (nail captured in a vacuum cleaner 1:51)

Description of the songs:

1.) Nail 5:04

A little introduction which informs the listener about the most important places, people and dates in Nails life, just beginning with his birth.

2.) Nobody 's opening 7:02

This song is about the hard work of all the vacuum cleaner-sellers out there. In this song Nail is walking down the so-called "locked-street" where he is ringing at every single house but nobody is opening.

3.) Filthy dog 6:20

One day, Nail rings at the door of an unpolite old guy who sets his dog on him. That beest bites Nail in the arm and hounts him throgh the end of the street. This song shall be very odd and full of hectic components.

4.) At the doors 6:11

This song is about the weekday of Nail and the way how he sells his vacuum cleaners.

5.) Vacuum cleaner 5:47

This song is about the same-named gadget which is sold by Nail.

6.) Back home 8:41

This song is about the things Nail does when he is coming back home after work.

Bonus track: Nail captured in a vacuum cleaner 1:51

A weird dream of Nail in which he is captured in a vacuum cleaner and trying to flee to the outside. In the end, he wakes up and realizes that everything was just a dream*.

*This song isn't meant seriously, it's more for fun.

I hope you like my ideas...

So always remember:

HAIL TO THE NAIL!!!

This was a collaboration between me and my friend koonak. I made the album cover, he made up the song titles. It was made for a hoax band called Sparrow, an imaginary prog rock band, you may see their story and albums at http://sparrowdreams.deviantart.com - http://sparrowdreams.deviantart.com . A splendid time is guaranteed for all! lol

here's the songs:

The Edge of Yesterday - ¨One I always wanted to hear with a full orchestra¨
Deeper Within ¨Always shown a lot of promise¨
The Eyes of Far Away Worlds ¨Has a middle piece that always captivates me¨
Jortrair, The Lament of Distance ¨Has so many mood changes that you can`t help but to laugh and cry at the same time¨
We the Whole ¨Well, that song just says it all!¨
¨And that beautiful guitar piece:¨ Requiem for their souls ¨is an incredible piece of music history¨
Of course I added the last song: Harmony !

Good Luck!

Concept:

The Three Stages of Life. It has three tracks, all about 15-20 minutes.

1. My dad is better than your dad. This is child like and filled with promise.

2. What would you know dad. Teenage rebellion, full of angst and rawk n roll, wild solos and sleeze.

3. As my Father used to say... Romantic, full of nostalga for the good old days.

I think Trouserpress's is the best.  I can totally picture it, having a laid-back, smoothly melodic, sort of drifty atmosphere.  Like a 3-hour constantly changing Alan's Psychodelic Breakfast.

This concept is inspired by the "Ants in the Fridge"-poll. The story is like this: The protagonist (named P.) discovers ants in his apartment. Instead of killing them he decides to put the ants in the freezer thus making them more copious and eventually creating a new race of superants that would take over the world. When P. is feeding the ants they attack him and drag him into the freezer where he freezes to death. The ants leave the freezer planning to conquer the world, but since they're used to living in a freezer they can't survive in the hot temperature outside and soon die like old people in the summer. In the end it is revealed that all this was just a dream of P's.

Ants in the Freezer

1. Prologue: The Antless Days (1:25)
2. An Ant! (3:47)
3. A Vicious Plan (4:21)
4. Catch 'em Ants! (3:55)

9. It's Cold in 'ere (4:34)
10. Death by Freezing (5:21)

My concept album is based in a novel that I'm writing which some autobiographical elements...

DARK MIND
A drunk but famous writer called Satai is passing through a creative emptiness after the death of his wife. One night, he decides to find some subject for a new novel and he begins to walk through the city, talking with the most strange street characters and getting into weird and hard drugs that lead his steps to Marcellus, an older and unknown writer who claims to be immortal and one of the Jesus disciples that wrote a prohibited chapter of the Bible. Marcellus leads Satai into misterious and underground libraries full of weird tipographers, poets, spirits of dead writers and demons (sorry, I can't deny Dante's inffluences) until he find the spirit of his beloved dead wife who takes him to the surface... It's dawning and now Satai has a clear idea of what he has to write...

So there's the songs of the album...

I just thought of a great concept for an ambient/drone album. It's not autobiographical in any way, since I don't use public transportation devices.

A Love Life

1. Nothing Part I (20:45) - Nothing happens.
2. A Tingling Sensation (0:27) - A girl sits next to the protagonist on a public transportation device and accidentally touches his knee with her hand.
3. Nothing Part II (15:35) - Nothing happens.
4. A Dream (0:58) - The protagonist has a dream where the girl from the public transportation device smiles to him.
5. Nothing Part III (37:16) - Nothing happens.

I've written some concept poems back in the days. And i must say, reading through this thread, well, mine are completely different than what we have here in most cases, I guess people are interested in different kinds of concepts or full stories. I might post some of my stories a bit later, heh, right now I'll just quote a colletion me and my brother did some years back under the influence of a lot of alcohol:

A Hunter's journey!

I. The Journey Begins (instrumental)

II. Angry Hunter

III. Blood Shedding

IV. Facing the Great Encounter

V. Bloodhounds

VI. Part 2, The Day-Slaughter

VII. Part 3, After Execution

IX. The Reaper, The Raper (instr.)

X. f**king Apes!

Well, that's about it. Notice, that these songs too actually have a whole set of lyrics written for them. I just never wanted to make music like this so I guess it's kind of a poem too, with a purile mind etc :P

The Age of Human Ovens

This album tells an exciting story that takes place in the distant future, in the year 2008. It's the story of love, it's the story of freedom, but most of all it's the story of a dinosaur. Mankind has used all the oil on the planet and is desperately seeking a new source of energy. Luckily scientists discover that heat can be turned into electricity. The best way to produce heat is to put a cold metallic object into one's mouth and wait for it to warm up. This is why all men are locked into power plants where they are kept in cells and forced to warm metal in their mouths. The power plants are run by women in leather clothing, who keep an eye on men so that they do their job and don't swallow any of the metal. When the metal is warm, the men spit it into pipes which lead into a giant container where the heat is turned into energy. Once all the heat is used and the pieces of metal are cold again, they are returned to the cells to be reused.

The plot revolves around Miss Muriel Trout III, a young woman who works as a guard at a power plant, and Maximillian Fudge Jr, who's one of the metal warmers at the very same power plant. One day when Muriel is serving Maximillian his daily meal, their eyes meet and they instantly fall in love. Maximillian tries to think of a way to escape, so they could hide on a remote island and live happily ever after eating coconuts and bananas. Muriel baked him a cake and hides a pneumatic drill inside it. Maximillian makes a hole on the floor of his cell and escapes through it. They live happily ever after on a remote island eating coconuts and bananas. Then, suddenly, a professor named Crumbs discovers a living dinosaur in a hidden pyramid. THE END.

Tracklisting:

Act I

1. Looking for Energy
2. A Discovery

5. The Guards in Leather Outfits
6. Don't Swallow the Metal!

It's a shame that something named "Duck" on a concept album last only 1:46. Not even Jethro Tull would dare to do that! LOL

Norwegian Hood

Story:
A Finnish man is taking a holiday in Norway, where he accidentally bumps his car into a black metal band. No one gets hurt, thanks to the immortality the band members have reached by practising certain occultistic rituals. The Finnish man doesn't get hurt either because his beer belly works as an airbag, but sadly the hood of the car bends so that it blocks the view through the windshield. Luckily, there's a legendary Norwegian blacksmith nearby who specializes in hoods. While making a new hood for the man's car the blacksmith, whose artist name is Black Smith, tells the man an epic story about how a Norwegian fisherman named Hans Olafsson slayed a dragon with a spoon.

Tracklisting:
1. A Song for Norway (3:01)
2. Metal Against Black Metal (5:43)
3. Bent Hood (4:54)
4. Blacksmith (6:17)
5. The Story of a Fisherman Who Slayed a Dragon with a Spoon (25:44)

Boy, Have I Got a Tooth for My Love!

This album tells the love story of a dentist and a strange women who collects teeth. The dentist saves the teeth he pulls and gives them to his loved one who makes exotic jewelry out of them. One day, on a mysterious dark alley, the dentist meets a female vampire. Seeing her fangs he decides to steal them when she sleeps. He tells her girlfriend of this vampire and promises to bring her the vampire's fangs. He begins to follow the vampire and wait for an opportunity to get hold of her teeth. He watches how she hunts for blood and sings old chansons near the sea. Suddenly he falls madly in love with the vampire. Unafraid he goes to the vampire, gives her flowers and tells her of his feelings. The vampire could suck all his blood, but being a nice vampire she only takes a sip and lets him drink some of hers so that he will also become a vampire and they can live together and sing old chansons by the sea holding hands. The dentist's girlfriend, however, is still waiting for the fangs he promised her. Since he can't take the teeth of the vampire he loves, he decides to make porcelain replicas of her fangs and give them to his girlfriend. But, alas, the girlfriend is an expert of teeth and soon realizes that the teeth are fake and that her dentist has fallen in love with the vampire. In furious anger she attacks the dentist with the porcelain fangs, but the dentist is faster and kills her with a single bite. The dentist is kind of sad because he had to kill her ex-girlfriend, but soon he forgets about her and lives happily ever after with the vampire, singing old chansons by the sea.

One Yellow Moment More

There's a 67-year old man who has always worn yellow sunglasses and thus seen the world as yellow. One day when he's walking on a bridge he trips on a branch and drops his sunglasses in the river. He's so used to seeing the world as yellow that watching it in different colours makes him dizzy and feel physical pain.

So he closes his eyes and begins to crawl towards the sunglasses shop. When he finally gets there he's told that yellow sunglasses are out of fashion and they don't stock them anymore. The man explains the situation and begs for them to order yellow sunglasses for him. The shopkeeper agrees, but it soon turns out that yellow sunglasses are so 80's that no company manufactures them anymore.

The shopkeeper is kind enough to contact the manager of a famous sunglasses company and ask him to make yellow sunglasses for the man. The manager tells the shopkeeper that they always make 10000 sunglasses at a time. Because nobody buys yellow sunglasses anymore, the man has to buy all 10000 pairs. The only way for the man to get enough money for the sunglasses is to become a recording blues artist who always keeps his eyes closed.

By the time he has enough money ($199500) he's 84 years old. He sends the money in a large envelope to the sunglasses company and receives his yellow sunglasses a month later. He puts the sunglasses on, opens his eyes, takes one more look at the yellow world, closes his eyes and dies with a yellow image in his mind.
