Here you have it, inspired by that other thread. It may have been done before, but I gots to know. For example, I believe Beginnings is Steve Howe's best album, but I couldn't tell you what's his worst (if there is a worst).

Well it's all subjective, I bet a lot of artists would kill for an album as good as TRS. For me Lionheart was a typically rushed second album and is her poorest effort.

On my side of things The Dreaming!!! is listed as the best - I'm with richardh on worst.

Oh, yeah - the Steve Howe album that did little to nothing for me up to this point was his Portraits of Bob Dylan, quite possibly his worst. Bought it when it first came out, played it, then immediately sold it down at the ol' used record/CD shop.

I think I'm an outlier here, but I think Turbulence is his best. I was a little disappointed by his live album that followed it.

Hi,
This is, by far, one of the ugliest and saddest threads I have ever seen in my life on a board.
Any artist is a person, and you are not strong enough to stand up to the ugly criticism, that some folks have of your work, otherwise you would not spend your time saying anything about it.
For these people, this is their life ... and sometimes, it seems like for us, all there is, is a bunch of ugly comments because we want to feel as important as the artists themselves.
I am no Picasso, Beethoven of Kate Bush, or Peter Hammill ... and I am not jealous of any of them, and do not criticize their work because I like 50 Words for Snow, and do not exactly care for Heathcliff ... one of those novels and stories that for me ... just make me want to go to the bathroom!
It is just bizarre, that because of the internet, we have all become critics and love to trash anything and everything, which we think is the definition of the First Amendment ... you just wait until a certain President is through ... you are not going to like it, and by that time I hope I am not around to see its ugliness!
------------- Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told! www.pedrosena.com

And the sad ugliness of just loving to trash others is perpetuated when what was supposed to be a musical discussion becomes just another launching pad for a political tirade.

Yep Lionheart is her 'Works Vol 2' , a bunch of tracks that were not her absolute best. Neverthless it still has Wow , Oh England my Lionheart and Hammer Horror whereas Moments Of Pleasure for me is the only memorable track on TRS.
Mosh - chill!!!

^I really love Lionheart, my big favourites from her right after Kick Inside, the Dreaming, Never For Ever & Hounds Of Love. I think also her last two albums are in the same level.

The only ugly thing here is Moshkito feeling that his approach to art is superior to everyone elses. An artist learning to cope with criticism equals learning to grow. Its healthy. Shutting down and getting your feelings hurt won't help you pushing things forward at all.
I've seen my share of former "great" artists surrounded by people that will never tell them their true opinion about their much inferior recent works. Its how we got Bono, Jar-Jar Binks, figurative works by Damien Hirst mm...

To a point!
AND, I HAVE NEVER STATED OR THOUGHT THAT MY IDEAS AND COMMENTS WERE MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOURS. IF ANYTHING IT'S ABOUT PERSPECTIVE, not to mention that most are not strong enough to show their own art, even here, and prove the point ... you can not create by listening to anyone else ... you have to listen to YOU!
So, please, stop this "socialist" point of view that you comments speak for the masses and you are right and an individualist, like me, is wrong.
Do that to your child and he/she will likely never paint again, or play another song again!
You intimidate the process and the inner learning with it. You end up making many folks super conscious of what they have done, and hurt some of their inner process. This is the main reason why so many "artists" separate themselves from the "public", because of insensitive comments that have absolutely nothing to do with the art itself, but the jealousy thereof!
My criticism, is not about you per se, or anyone else!
It is about improving our study and commentary about progressive music, and helping it establish it in the pantheon of music history ... sometimes it sounds like just another top ten fan, defending a song they like ... it has nothing to do with the music itself, and above all, with the artist at all!
YOU ARE NOT AN ARTIST IF YOU SPEND YOUR TIME COPING WITH THE CRITICISM ... IN FACT ... YOU WILL LIKELY NEVER GET ANYTHING DONE ... or you can become a Warhol and finger everyone and their "ideas" about art! That seems to make better sense!

^well I am an actual full time artist - you're not... and jeez no - its not about "spending my time coping with criticism" haha that is what the butthurt artist would do. But genuine artists shouldn't need your-or anyone's protection from criticism. There's no need to be evil just for the sake of it. But thinking, saying or writing that Bluejeans & Moonbeams is one of Captain Beefhearts weaker efforts isn't evil. I'd say anyone who tried to hide that truth from the Capt'n wasn't a real friend or doing his art any favours.
And you don't have to state that you feel above the rest to get that point across. Doesn't matter to me if you don't personally feel like you're that type of person. I read your posts and this is how your tone towards others make you appear. So if you're not comfortable with that - take my criticism and see if there's maybe a tiny ounce of truth to it that you can admit to - and change your tone.
-And that socialist rubbish of yours doesn't make any sense at all. Socialism is cultural relativist = more like you than people who allow themselves to consider some piece of art better than another piece of art.

Sorry for all that. Now back to business... off the top of my head:
Miles Davis best: Big Fun worst: You're Under Arrest
Catherine Ribeiro best: N°2 worst: La Déboussole
Igor Wakhévitch best: Docteur Faust worst: Être Dieu
Btw: best is more like most listened to. Its not like Big Fun is better than Bitches Brew - worst was far easier.

It's
hard for me to pick between 'Bluejeans' and 'Unconditionally
Guaranteed'. They're conspicuously and easily his worst albums (I'd say
probably his only poor ones), but I think 'Guaranteed' is just
marginally worse. I think there's one song on 'Bluejeans' that I sorta
like (and I like the cover)
Best is a lot harder. 'Trout Mask' is the obvious candidate, but 'Lick My Decals Off, Baby' and 'Doc at the Radar Station' are damn close.

| Both albums are not totally bad for me, for example I like "Party Of Special Things To Do" and his version of Cale´s " Same Old Blues". "Captain´s Holiday" is his worst song. But I think "Unconditionally" as a whole has more the mean Magic Band touch that "Bluejeans" (in Bluejeans there are no old Magic Band members).
Yes, those three are his greatest, really love also "Ice Cream For Crow" & "Strictly Personal".

Yes, Robert Wyatt is quite literally at the rock bottom of my list, but at least a two star rating is not quite rock bottom, if you follow my meaning. Anyway, it's my favourite Robert Wyatt album, if "favourite" is the right word - probably the least disliked would be more accurate.
