Okay, I have been a Dream Theater fan for some years now, but have yet to discover any band close to the technical superior of Dream Theater (in my opinion). Can someone out there reccomend a good one? I like the more mellow dream theater songs (such as Hollow Years etc). Also - I recently downloaded the track Day Dream by Ash Ra Temple but can NOT find any more information on the band ANYWHERE online or in local stores. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers all. I don't think Symphony X is very similar to DT. SX is more adventurous and they have a slightly more different metal style than DT, IMO! ------------- RIO/AVANT/ZEUHL - The best thing you can get with yer pants on! |

that spice girls joke was not funny....ok...it was, but Dream theater is not rubbish. and neither is SPICE GIRLS!!! they have a lot of talent, and baby spice is hot ------------- I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t. -Stone Beard |

Anyone heard of a band called X-Japan? I haven't heard them, but I
heard they're really similar to Dream Theater but much much better. I
read this review for an album called "Art of Life", where the reviewer
said that the 30-minute title track was the absolute greatest
prog-metal song he's ever heard. Anyway, I still need to check them out

EASY- I would say Symphony X Vanden Plas (get Beyond Daylight) Dremscape- the most underrated prog-metal band rught now- easy. Dali's Dillema- If you like Images and Words- buy their album.

Even though I don't care for later Dream Theater(but then again, I haven't heard the new album ), Angra is one prog metal band that fascinates me. They're really talented, IMO, and it amazes me that they're not more famous than they are.

Porcupine Tree (I mean instrumental Wedding Nails) Actually, you can never say, that the style of Shadow Gallery... etc is very similar to Dream Theater one, but in fact some riffs and melodies (quite often) bear great resemblance to their masterpices BUT what's most imortant they are enriched with new brilliant solutions.That's why we love all of Them! ------------- |
