I am new to reel to reel and have a Teac X-1000R deck. My question is will an AKAI reel fit on my deck. I need to order a take up reel and AKAI seem to be the most common. Thanks for your help.

PS: Where is the best place to buy reels and tape?

eBay for reels: tons of tape suppliers. I seem to recall that it's all made in one factory, now.

Braver man than I am. I was thinking of buying a reel to reel, having had one many years ago. I'm an inveterate tinkerer with electronics as a hobby - frankly, sourcing and replacing take up rollers, belts, skimming heads and altering tape azimuth no longer appeals. ;-)
