I don't think he's rejoining Spock's Beard and he's also not leaving BBT but this is big news nonetheless.
From the Spock's Beard website:
Spock's Beard is super excited to announce that the amazing Nick D'Virgilio has agreed to play on our next album! Nick of course is well known to SB fans as our former drummer/lead singer/all around awesome dude as well for working with artists such as Genesis, Mike Keneally, Peter Gabriel and Big Big Train among many others. Nick was with us when we first started and we are over the moon to have him back with us for this album! We know you'll be as excited as we are to hear what we will be able to create with him back pounding the skins. We've been writing material and plan to start recording in earnest in late May, so stay tuned! |

Just when I was getting into what Jimmy Keegan was contributing (absolutely impressed with The Oblivion Particle) though will be cool with Nick behind the kit once again in SB. I think he's somewhat restrained for the BBT material. Although that's my (douche) opinion.

Strange how different people have different perceptions, Tom, because I think Nick's contributions to BBT have been magnificent.

^ Don't get me wrong - I love the last few BBT albums, Nick does a magnificent job. What was it - East Coast Racer = sheer brilliance. Actually, Greg Spawton is a genius. I guess I just love SB more.

I would love to see the classic lineup of SB get back together and record an album. I suppose that will never happen though. The closest I think we will ever get is Afterthoughts and Waiting For Me off Brief Nocturnes.

Should say this in the official SB thread, but, as awesome as Brief Nocturnes is, Oblivion Particle knocks it out of the park for me !! I do think Nick is a phenomenal Prog Drummer, either way, and it will be welcome to hear him thump his magic through some new SB tunes

Listened to it once and other than the first four songs, didn't do much for me. I'll definitely give it more spins though.

Agreed. My double vinyl (in blue) of Folklore arrived yesterday and it is magnificent. The title track alone is worth paying £27 for. And Nick's playing is magnificent, as is the rest of the band.

^ Wasn't aware of the blue vinyl, got regular black. Oooh, Brooklands But I love English Electric II the most (vinyl version, with the extra tracks). Currently spinning The Oblivion Particle, but I'm definitely going to squeeze in Folklore before turning in for the night.
