Great album. My least favorite track is Willie the Pimp...

He neither drank, smoked, nor rode a bicycle. Living frugally, saving his money, he died early, surrounded by greedy relatives. It was a great lesson to me -- John Barrymore

Strangely enough, Peaches (which I know is beloved).

Good to see Son of Mr. Green Genes and The Gumbo Variations don't have any votes yet. I could understand an argument for any of the others, but for me it's definitely Little Umbrellas. No bad songs on the album though.

Love them all.

Will vote for Willie.

Seconded, every word except the light weight comment about being 'nuts'.  Statements about 'Willie the Pimp' being the worst song on "Hot Rats' deserve something more along the lines of, 'put the pipe down and back away slowly'.

The Pimp is a little too greedy. Few minutes too long.

It Must Be A Camel for me. That's one excellent track, with the rest being absolutely superb !!

Not a fan of Willie either, though nothing on this album is bad really.

The Gumbo Variations... just way too much aimless noodling that doesn't really fit with the great compositions on the album.

Not gonna lie, I didn't want to be that guy, because I couldn't believe Willie the Pimp far and away has the most votes. Everyone seems to be pretty Beefheart-averse here at PA, lmao.

Not a bad track ...they all rule as Mick already said......

but Frenetic gets my vote for the second place as most resurrected thread starter.

I have the album and have listened to it but don't really know it well enough to vote. I was tempted to say Willie the pimp though because I don't care much for Beefheart's vocals. "Peaches en regalia" and "Son of mr. green genes" are my two favorites though. The last few I'm not as familiar with.

Beefheart sounds like he’s had a diet of sand-paper and crushed glass, but his voice is a lot of fun really. Willie was the song that got me into Zappa around 1990. Took me a long time to amass my 36 LP Zappa collection though.

context man.. it works perfectly within the context of the song.. could Greg Lake carried that off. even if a better by the numbers singer. oh hell no. It wouldn't have worked...ontext man.. it was greasy slutty and dirty.. and the Captain was perfect for it.... context.....something a lot of people seem to overlook...
