We all know of the annoying but occasionally funny minions from Despicable Me. But the other day, I was listening to Frank Zappa's Flower Punk. In the second part of the song, he has high pitched voices speaking in different languages. At the very end of the song, they applaud. They sound EXACTLY like the minions! He was completely ahead of his time, this was 1968, and the minion stuff is in the 2010s. Were the Despicable Me producers possibly inspired by Zappa?

Very good thought and It is possible, Zappa did like to speed tape up but I don't think there will be any royalty issues here Wink

Little known fact, Jimmy Carl Black and Eric Clapton brought the Minions backstage to party at a Mothers' concert at the Fillmore. Zappa and the Minions got into a terrible fight and Frank wrote an album about it titled "Minions Ripped My Flesh"; unfortunately, due to copyright constraints, Frank had to use "Weasels" instead.

Possibly. There are a lot of Zappa fans in TV/Hollywood. He has those 'minion' voices scattered throughout his entire discography (part of the Conceptual Continuity I guess).

Th minions actually do have names, like Bob and Stuart and stuff. So if they make a minions three, and name two of them Flo and Eddie, we would know for sure

Yup, 1st example that pops in my head is Matt Groening creator of the Simpsons has said many times that, "Frank was my Elvis"...perhaps Bart Simpsons voice was based on Greggary Peccary Wink

Well, the Minions spin-off movie mostly took place in late 1960s London, where psychedelia/hard rock ruled the new music of the day (along with the rise of prog of course), and Zappa became hugely popular especially with Hot Rats (making the top 3 on the album chart over there), so it is indeed possible if I say so myself.

You guys might not know this, but Minions were inspired by a desire to manipulate children into getting their parents money mainlined into Hollywood.
