Thoughts ?

Yes, I have a thought. Why would you post that here?

Hi,

How's your question ... progressive? I would suggest that such a reviewer is not one at all, but just another goon that likes 3 songs ... !    Clown

I share too but what can you do with these "Shares"? Nothing. You only Promote that review and it's writer!

Well I was hoping to promote my disbelief and that others might share that.

Unfortunately it hasn't caught steam yet, it seems. There is a certain amount of ambivalence to Zappa even on PA. I tend to go for his guitar work but a large portion of his sardonic lyrics work for me too. Whether or not someone else fails to similarly disposed toward his music aesthetically is one thing, but the substance of his experimentation, musicianship, composition and general artistry are undeniable. As far as being "glad he's dead," that's just too nasty.

Zappa wouldn't give a damn about that writer.

Hi,

I'm reconsidering posting the "200 Motels - The Suites" at the PA board, afraid that the replies and responses, just won't be appropriate or concerned with the music ... that the replies will immediately say this is not "progressive' and get lost ... and this is sad ... to one of the greatest American composers ever!

Why ? I haven't bought it yet.  Salonen is a good choice. A few years ago I saw him in Paris directing the John Adams symphony and it was electric !
I'm not afraid by the music, but by the voices. How are the voices ?

No, but I remember seeing the video clip with Zappa and the bicycle. It's strange to see him without the mustache, but the demonstration was interesting, unintentionally predicting Jamie Muir's antics with Larks' era King Crimson.

I have two great regrets in life:  not carrying on with piano lessons when I was a tot, and the fact that I never got to see Zappa though I had quite a few opportunities.

Haven't heard Cyclophony, would be good to hear more of the early PAL Studio stuff.
Have some of the tracks elsewhere, which were a hoot.

The The Lost Episodes includes some early PAL stuff too with Run home slow, Lost in a Whirlpool
and others.

Charva is my fave PAL recording...never fails to crack me up LOL

As far as the reviewer being glad Zappa's dead:

"Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe."
