since no one seems to know squat about greece.... there seems to be a lot of finnish folk here, so let's hear some recommendations - i'm particular to '70s stuff, but i also like:

scarlet thread -
liettya project -
höyry-kone
alamaailman vasarat
groovevector
& karuna

for post '70s stuff....

not a metal fan, so filter, if you would, accordingly...

thanks,

dave

Best album in ( )

The 70's classics:

-Haikara (Geafar)
-Pekka Pohjola (Harakka Bialoipokku aka B the Magpie)
-Tabula Rasa (Ekkedien Tanssi)
-Tasavallan Presidentti (Lambertland)
-Wigwam (Fairyport)

Present day underground bands:

-Hidria Spacefolk
-Nemesis [ biggest influence:Tangerine Dream ]
-Taipuva Luotisuora

Then there is of course Kingston Wall, one of the greatest Finnish bands ever, they played psychedelic rock but only made 3 records as singer/guitarist Pete Walli committed suicide in 1994. All three of those albums are worthwhile.

And regarding the metal - does anybody know ANY prog metal bands from Finland? I can't name even one. (No, Nightwish still isn't prog .)

my bad - hidria spacefolk has been on my list for a while, but i couldn't find symbiosis for a long time over here and gave up...

kingston wall? sounds great  - tell me more.

also taipuva luotisuora - haven't heard of them at all.

have the rest except for the 'b' the magpie - on the list.

do you know if scarlet thread has a new one coming? that first one was quite a pleasant surprise...

np: jukka tolonen - tolonen!

You can find an mp3 sample from the band pages. I like their 2nd album titled "II" the best.

I believe they have already recorded the new album but I'm not sure which label will release it. Not even sure if they have a record deal.

UZVA "Tammikuinen Tammela" - instrumental prog folk with ZAPPA influences

TASAVALLAN PRESIDENTTI "Still strugling for Freedom" - recent liveversions of the material from their two first albums with sampe lineup

WIGWAM "Live Music from The Twilight Zone" - few silly fill-up coversongs, but otherwise great

Wigwam - Fairyport, Being
Uzva - Niittoaika
Tasavallan Presidentti - Lambertland
Haikara - Haikara
Kingston Wall - II
Jukka Tolonen -
Tolonen!
Hidria Spacefolk - Balansia
Pekka Pohjola - Pihkasilmä Kaarnakorva
Gjallarhorn - Sjofn (although more world music/folk than prog IMO)
Kalevala
- People No Names
The Giant Hogweed Orchestra -
s/t
Finnforest - Lähtö Matkalle

Although you probably already know most of these?

Oh! By the way, you can download an EP called HDRSF-01 from Hidria Spacefolk's website (for free). It's over 35 minutes long! Check it out!

Actually, I've yet to discover Finnish prog...

At some point I will definitely get something from Wigwam and Pekka Pohjola, though.
