Three of my top favorite albums.
I like The Yes Album just a tiny bit more.

Foxtrot is on a whole other level than the other two I my opinion.
The Yes Album is great, but rarely has the moments that really move me.

Then ElP/BSS is just bad so.

Foxtrot is way out of the galaxy compared to the others.

I set all three CDs on a table for a three-way mud wrestling death match.
So far, nothing has happened. Perhaps I would get better results with vinyl.

Did you offer a prize?  CDs can be lazy if there is no incentive.

I forgot to wipe up all the bread crumbs and coffee grounds. You'd think that's sufficient.

Mine won't put out for anything less than a drive in the car while being played at full volume. Obviously time to up the ante.

Voted Yes to even things up......Wink.....but for me Foxtrot and Yes are about equal. That ELP  album just never rang my bell though it does have some very nice moments on it.

1. Foxtrot
2. Brain Salad Surgery
3. The Yes Album

Can anyone explain why the line, "I've seen all good people turn their heads each day so satisfied I'm on my way," is repeated over and over and over again. I don't understand that, and it just kills it for me.

I'm not a musician so perhaps I should not be weighing in on this question but for me that line is being treated as a musical theme - not so much for its meaning but in the same way you would repeat a series of notes throughout a song.  The way the music played between that repeated line is more improvised makes me think that the lyrics were treated as an anchor for the song, in the same way that a guitar line would anchor a song and the other instruments riff off that.

But what do I know, I'm just a paralegal.

All three are masterpieces. Very difficult choice but Foxtrot has "Supper's Ready" and the other two don't.

It's a toss up between Foxtrot and The Yes Album. I'll give the latter some love as it looks like it needs it more.
I don't think I've made it all the way through Brain Salad Surgery yetEmbarrassed Something I need to rectify surely.

No idea,   but I like it a lot better than that inane 'cha...cha...cha'  bit on Relayer.

^ You gotta repeat something (a catchy line, an element of pop) for several modulations (an element of prog).

Just a paralegal? That was a wonderful explanation of the now-famous line. I myself think it was Squire's way of saying the band was tickled that "good" people were noticing the band's increasing success and were accepting it. But what do I know - I'm just an aging twit!

Hmm, I always thought it was that even good people turn their heads away from the awful things that happen in the world and move on their way, satisfied with their own lives but unwilling to help others.

I guess I should revise that to "what do I know, I'm just a pessimistic paralegal."  I like your explanation better.

Prog has just lost its greatest keyboard, arguably musician.  Brain Salad  has Karn Evil 9, that alone puts it in top spot.
