I don't agree either, they might be good stuff (at least their first album), but not Progressive!

I wouldn't call them noisy trash, they're a talented post-hardcore band, However, I agree, they're certainly not prog.

Math Metal. One hell of a great band! Especially with the GOD Mike Patton.
Noisy trash is Rush, for sure!
------------- And above all, is punk

Rush isn't noisy trash! The Sex Pistols are noisy trash. Rush may be loud, but they make the sound work for them.

Now I don't think anyone's coming to the Sex Pistols' rescue.

Yeah, and Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones is a complex musical piece that demonstrates their boundless talent.

They're far from being traditional prog, but they certainly do have
progressive tendencies, and to call them "noisy trash" is just plain
ignorant. If you don't like them, then ignore them, but they're a lot
more progressive than many of the other bands on this site and I see no
good reason for them to be removed.

Yeah, I know. I actually kind of like the Ramones. They basically started punk and everybody else copied their three-cords.

Sex Pistols at least is an original band, Rush ISN'T.
For the one who asked, Math Metal is a mix of Metal, Jazz and
Grindcore. It is characterized by a show of skill, changeable time
signatures, and often dissonant or atonal guitar riffs. It's
technically demanding.

I think The Dillinger Escape Plan is progressive in every sense of the
word! Just because their music is turned up to '11' so to speak and
their plentiful musical ideas are sandwiched into shorter tracks than
what is apparently considered 'kosher' amongst certain progressive ROCK fans
does not erase this fact. I felt they were a viable addition to
progarchives because it was my understanding that this site caters to
all aspects of progressive music rather than solely '70s prog. It's
apparent the original poster of this thread is not a fan of DEP's
music, which is fine as he does not have to be, but dismissing them as
trash seems absurd to me and I would expect more from a community of
intelligent fans of intelligent music, and in my mind intelligent music
would encompass The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Isn't a facet of progressive music to push boundaries; not to mention, expanding horizons and opening up the doors to cross-genre pollination so to speak? Do we really need to caterwaul incessantly about such trite malarky in labelization? It's just a tad ironic how the mainstream listeners backintheday were dismissive of the esteemed prog giants ('what the f**k is this sh*t?!?') and subsequently grew to like them...and now we're in a similar situation of premature presumptions and indolence. Some music takes time to understand...and some doesn't...if you don't like a band, move on...it's as simple as that, why do you have to waste my (granted, I don't have much) time and yours over this?
But, for the most part, get your heads out of your asses...seriously...Dillinger might not be my cup of tea personally (albeit I like a few songs and respect their lactose-intolerant genre breach to the Gigantour's Metal cliches in a few days) but they're at least trying to make some interesting music which you typically don't hear. Even though Genghis Tron and Ion Dissonance are in a similar "post-hardcore" vein as well...
Don't mind my rant.

Here's my stance:
Progressive rock, in my opinion, is just that: progressive. While I
understand that many people have a very "classic" opinion of what
constitutes prog rock (Yes, Genesis, ELP, Tull, etc...), I think that
ANY band that stretches the boundaries of rock music is worthy of
inclusion on this site. Prog is unique in terms of music genres, it is
not necessarily indicitive of a specific sound, but more an ethos. To
all naysayers who have resentment to the inclusion of this band or that
band on this site I say, pshaw! If you like/dislike them is of no
matter: the fact that someone is aware of the genre and associates the
band with it is usually good enough for me. Any band that challenges
convention to produce intelligent rock music gets at least one listen
from me, if I don't like it, then I move on. But I don't question the
label: prog is big enough for everyone!
