Test For Echo The top 3 are extremely close, but all of the first 9 would constitute as some kind of masterpiece. I feel bad for putting Moving Pictures below every previous album (including the debut), but the 2nd side never really grabbed me, and I play all the others way more. In the last couple of years, the only times I've actually played MP is because I was trying to get (back) into it

Here I go : !. Signals ( didn't like it at first but it got them out of a creative rut. I liked the simplification of the music ) 2. Hemispheres ( all of it not just La Villa ) 3. 2112 ( hey, I was a teenager once. Sort of grew out of it but still like throwing it on the turntable ) 4. Permanent Waves ( Spirit Of Radio was about CFNY if anybody remembers Marsden playing early Rush ) 5. Exit...Stage Left ( Should have been a triple album. Not familiar with the CD release ) Those are my top 5. The one that I absolutely can't stand is Feedback. I find that they lost their mystique by releasing too many live albums/DVDs . Not too crazy about Rush In Rio.

Hemi Signals Pictures Waves 2112 Fly Grace ------------- All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock. |

I know! I ignored that poor album for decades thinking I'd outgrown it somehow....last year I threw it on and it beat me upside the head with a 2x4. There's no substitute for youth. They can still play all those old songs, but they can't play em "like that" anymore. |

Lets talk about one of my listed albums - that seems to get praise and love from few - Hold Your Fire. Absolutely a diamond in the ruff. Quite unique in the Rush discography, but it has just such a beautiful warmth in both the lyrics and vocals, while still keeping the classic Rush musicianship. My favorites are 2112, Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres. I do like Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures, but not as much as theses three above. Hey, I was the only one to SIMPLY LOVE the promotional "Feedback"? Great album of covers, seriously. ------------- - From each according to his ability, to each according to his need. |

How about the sounds of silence? I don't care for Rush, thanks, and I care for them less after 2112. Why is that so difficult for you to fathom? And If your f*cked up Canadian Genie offered Bieber, I would wrap up the lamp in Canadian bacon, go to the shore of this mythical Canadian desert island, and feed the lamp to some cod or salmon or perhaps a walrus or an orca. I sense anger. Believe me I'm not too crazy about Rush myself. Last time I checked there were no Walruses living in Canada. Thanks to man they have been eradicated. One thing about Rush that I do like is Alex's Paris Hilton rants. |

Personally I have a soft spot for Rush's 80s material. I don't mind the synths and I love how they were able to branch out their subject matter away from purely political thoughts but still managed to maintain their rebellious attitude while improving their musicianship and work as a group. My list of favorites changes depending on the day of the week but here's what it is right now.1. Permanent Waves 2. Grace Under Pressure 3. Hemispheres 4. Signals 5. Counterparts 6. Caress of Steel 17. Presto 18. Test For Echo 19. Rush It's a big spread an it pains me to see some albums so far down on the list because on the overall list of every album I've ever heard most of these are pretty near the top |

My order for the studio albums would probably be: Hemispheres Moving PicturesA Farewell To Kings Permanent Waves 2112 Caress of Steel Fly By Night Signals Power Windows Grace Under Pressure Clockwork Angels Snakes & Arrows Rush Counterparts Hold Your Fire Vapor Trails Roll The Bones Test for Echo Presto As 'All the World's a Stage' was the live triple album that got me into them and took me to the Free Trade Hall, Manchester on June 2nd 1977 as an awestruck 16 year old - that would be near the top too! 'Exit Stage Left' probably just a couple of spaces below as well. Like many, I drifted away in the late 80s and early 90s, but great to see them get back on song of late and start to approach their previous majesty. ------------- “Living in their pools, they soon forget about the sea.” |
