Not sure how many are technically 'ballads'... I went with ELP as Greg Lake seemed to know a ballad when he saw one....

Literally impossible, I can only really eliminate one or two but they're all at least 10/10 songs Smile

Stop being that harsh on the definitions. 'Ballad' is kind of a general word here. Would u have felt easier, had I put as the word 'song' instead of 'ballad'? LOL

Starless (aka the greatest song ever written)>Lady Fantasy>Firth Of Fifth>Shine On>Starship Trooper>Lost>Take A Pebble

I would have preferred 'song'.  Ballad is a subset of songs.  Not all songs are ballads, but all ballads are songs.

it just seems like a good day to be pedantic, you know?

Sure I wouldn't  miss the opportunity of putting in the ballad poll a song with such a name, but it wouldnt stand a chance against hmm.. Starless. Rly, I shoulda put Epitaph instead of Starless for the contest to be fair

My difficult choice was Pink Floyd or Camel.
I had to pick one, so it was Pink Floyd.

Firth of Fifth is the best song on Selling' which is saying loads, so it outclasses much of the competition here (sorry, Starless).

Apart from Starless, they're all 9/10, but LF is 10/10.

Indeed almost impossible, all are wonderful, except that I don't recall the song "Lost" from VDGG. And "Take a Pebble" is indeed beautiful, but I feel the instrumental mid section is just a bit too long and sort of patchy or something... I just don't enjoy it so much and feel that kind of cuts the enjoyment of the main song. However, by definition my favourite song of all is Shine on You Crazy Diamond (usually thinking about the whole 25 min thing), so I have to go with that one (to be fair, I'm not really sure it is still my very favourite among all this choices... Lady Fantasy, Firth of Fifth, Starless are just as wonderful... but then I put Shine On again and listen to those first notes and I remember why it's suposed to be my favourite song of all).

Just happened to listen to Starless this morning so hard not to vote for that ( so I did!)

I can't help but think there should be something by Supertramp from Crime Of The Century in there somewhere or maybe the impressive Child Of Vision ( perhaps 7 minutes is not long enough though)

Sorry to say it again, but they're not ballads.
Starless though, my go-to answer for favourite song.

Voted Starless but hard choice. The ending sells it though, obviously.

Genesis, Firth of Fifth.

Firth of Fifth for sure, that song's gotten me through some really hard times. Also followed by the ones that have the word star in them (KC and Yes)
