Have you noticed that "Even Less" lyrics are quite different in Warzsawa compared to Stupid Dream? Why is that? Is this in any FAQ?

Did you know that the guy talking at the end of "Last Time to Evacuate Planet Earth Before It Is Recycled" is the leader from that religious group that commited suicide when that comet was near Earth?

There is a longer version of Even Less ... on the album Recordings, I think.

First, I don't bring you a answer but a question, I know well Stupid Dream but what is Warzsawa (I know that's a city in Poland), a live album? And if is it, is it good?

Second, the religious group you're talking about is it "Le temple solaire" or in english "The solar temple"?

Yep, great sample, eh?

I don't have Stupid Dream or Warsawa yet, but they're on the list. Intriguing that the lyrics are different.

Have you ever wondered what those numbers were at the end of Even Less?

Do a google search for "number stations"

Yes, Warzsawa is also the name of a live CD recorded in Warzsawa, Poland.

http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_CD.asp?cd_id=4764 - Here it is.

I like PT live albums and I find this to be the best (biased opinion, I have only heard two live albums from them, Warzsawa and Coma Divine).

I don't know the name of the group, but I found a page where it is said that they called themselves "Heaven's Gate" and that the mass suicide was in 1997.

I didn't say "Warzawa", I said "Warzsawa".

I blame Arnold Schwarzenegger. He confused me.

(Yes, I know he is from Austria, not Poland, but the spelling of "warz" comes naturally.)

I was in the Heaven's Gate cult and I was the only one to survive the suicide attempt. Shot myself 3 times before I noticed this was stupid, and it hurt alot too.

Something to do with espionage? I've heard about that don't know where. Urban legend probably?

Then there is Voyage 34, which I think has something to do with the time duration in minutes of someone's bad trip. But why if it is not a 34 minute album?

I've never listened to that live version but I know that "Even Less" was originally intended to be a(n) (anti-)religious song and had different lyrics with obvious allusions to Mr. Christ. Finally, Wilson took the edge off it by changing the lyrics for the release of "Stupid Dream". Maybe the version on "Warszawa" is the revived original version?

Is Mr. Wilson atheist? It doesn't surprise me at all, specially after reading some of his lyrics.

I am kinda an agnostic pantheist myself.

Nope - it was the 34th trip that was the "bad one", not 34 minutes.

Sorry, I don't know about his outlook on everything. And I can't find the original lyrics at the moment. Thought you could get them on the PT website but ... nothing.

Not Urban Legend at all. The end of Even Less sounds like a CIA short-wave radio "number post" from around 1990. CIA "Cynthia" perchance???

What is the meaning of the counting at the end of Even Less?
The counting is taken from a recording of a shortwave numbers station. It is understood that these stations are used by intelligence agencies to transmit coded messages to overseas operatives, although no government agency has ever acknowledged the existence of these stations or what their actual purpose might be.

http://www.porcupinetree.com/discography.details.cfm?album id=44
^ demo version lyrics available there

and from the porcupine tree unofficial message board....

You wanna hear something hilarious??  We actually asked him about that after one of the shows.  We were like... "In Even Less, on the album you sing for even less but live you sing to even less.  We were wondering if there is something behind that."  SW looks perplexed and responds..... "I never noticed that.  That goes to show you... I don't even listen to my own records!"  And he laughs.

Hope this helps

Thanks a lot. This for/to even less thing is certainly one of them. But I think there are more changes than just the prepositions. I will try listening to the live version again and compare with the official lyrics. This should certainly be placed in a FAQ just for fun.

Quite strange those demo lyrics. I am glad he changed.

All I noticed was that live he sings "To even less" instead of "For even less". same with the version on Recordings (that's more than twice as long)

and no, I didn't know the origin of the sample (I rearely do, although I figured out the "Rambo" sample on OSI's version of New Mama - that was simple enough).

very interesting, though
