I have this theory and I would like you to comment on it. The relation between Jethro Tull´s Thick as a Brick and A Passion Play is the same that Yes´s Close to the Edge and Relayer.

Look it like this, both Thick and Close are the masterpieces from both bands ( not the only masterpieces, but you can say that they are wheater you like them or not the bests they have made), but then there are A Passion and Relayer, which many find more interesting.

Then there are the same structure in both, Jethro Tull´s 2 long epics and Yes one monster epic and 2 shorter songs of which one is pure guitar and the other king like a clasic piece.

And finally both A passion and Relayer are both more complex than Thick and Close...and both came out after...

What do you say?...I also like Realyer and A Passion Play mose than Close and Thcick as a Brick...

I see what you mean. Thick as a Brick and Close to the Edge are far more easy to get into while the other two albums are difficult to get into to. I still have some trouble listening to Relayer, but it is a very interesting album.

Yes, that's true, except for the TaaB and Relayer being masterpieces and more complex than CttE and APP, and them being similar parts.

You make a good point. I hope I don't shoot holes in your theory, because I like Thick as a Brick and Relayer better than Passion and Close !

If it's worth playing, it's worth playing loud!

I see where you're coming from with this comparison! I also favour APP and Relayer respectively, though CTTE makes it onto my top lists more often as it was my first prog purchase.

Good point. Also TAAB & PP are musically sort of similar ( I dont mean just the song structure but the actual arrangement )...... the resemblance isn't so striking in the 2 Yes albums but IMO does exist.

I personally prefer PP (though that might be only because that was the 1st Tull album I heard, so it obviously has a spl place), but like CTTE better than Relayer
