Personnally, I hesitate between Kevin and Jordan. I'm fond of Derek's work in Planet X, and also Jordan's solo work, especially on 'Feeding the wheel'. Kevin's soloing brought within DT a breath of fresh air in their music, but Jordan is much more virtuosic and achieves a fantastic work, especially on '6doit', despite the fact that he is less astonishing than on his solo works.

They're all good but I've been impressed with Lana Lanes husband Erik Norlander lately. Since he's not an option I'll go with Rudess

I felt sorry for Kevin, so I voted for him. I really like the OSI venture, as well as Chroma Key.

Sherinian for me - I find Rudess too clinical (suited Bowies last album well, though)

Ever since I saw the Metropolis 2000 DVD, I've loved Rudess' virtuso keyboarding work. other than him, Moore is an excellent choice

Jordan Rudess is the best. Derek was a really bad choice. I think that Kevin did a great job in Images & Words and Awake. Songs like "Wait for Sleep" and "Space-dye Vest" are trully beautiful.

Jordan Rudess. Although I did really like Kevin Moore.
I kinda feel sorry for Derek Sherenian though. Although I'm a fan of his, I feel like he never belonged in Dream Theater. Like he was just a void or summit.

I like them all to a degree, but like some others have said, seeing the Lives Scenes DVD cinched it for me. Jordan is fantastic.
Kevin is great too. Kind of like the modern Tony Banks: always plays what's right for the song and doesn't show off as much as the other 2.
Derek would be a lot more appealing to me if he didn't act like such a poser. I read someone else refer to him as Derek "I am God" Sherinian, and that pretty much sums it up I think. Very very talented though.

OOps, sorry folks, i missed that DT....
I thought the topic was for the best keyboardist in general.
oh well :-)

i think that derek sherinian wanted to get back at petrucci for getting kicked out of the theater, so he decided to make a solo album with yngwie, one of JP's heroes, who he didn't get to play alongside. I dont know if this is true but if you check the archives Yngwie (and Zakk Wylde from Ozzy and Black Label Society) are on there.
If so then DS and JP should have made up by now as recently they did a 15th anniversary concert of WDADU, with derek and charlie playing on the encore. You can get this on cd and dvd on the "official bootleg" (what an oxymoron) page on http://www.dreamtheater.net - www.dreamtheater.net

I say Jordan Rudess. But I think those first DT albums wouldn't be what they are (awesome) if Moore wasn't on them.

Is
very difficult the decission between jordan and kevin, since I&W is
my favorite DT album and my believing of jordan being the best
keybordist alive and the new energy he gave to the band with scenes
from a memory. But well we now have TOT and the amazing stream of
conciusness in it, so I would say Jordan

Moore and Rudess are both amazing... i went for Rudess for being in 2 of my 3 favorite albums (SDOIT, SFAM & IAW), also he was in the 2 albums in which keyboards are more present (SDOIT & SFAM), IMO. Also his previous job with Liquid Tension Experiment was awesome.

It's hard to pick one.... Jordan's perfect technically, while Kevin is not just a great musician, but also a musical genius.
Sorry Jordan, but you never wrote songs like Space-dye Vest or Wait for Sleep
