Couldn't be easier. Gildenlow is an amazing and very unique singer whilst Alder is just another hair metal style singer, good at what he does but nothing exceptional.

Ray Alder is "just another hair metal style" singer? Please listen to Parallels and Inside Out and get back to me. In his prime, his voice was just as good as Geoff Tate's was.

Adler for sure, yes he has some not so steller performances out there but he also has some killer ones. I just prefer his voice to Gildenlow's to be honest.

I have the two after those, Perfect Symmetry and A Pleasant Shade of Grey. He's good, but like Geoff Tate I don't really hear anything that sets him apart from dozens of other singers in the same style, all hitting the high notes and delivering the lines in the same way. And personally neither of them are a patch on Russel Allen, the best in the business in that style.
Gildenlow on the other hand has that huge range and adds a Hammill/Fish style of theatricality to it that few others have done so, at least as convincingly.

Perfect Symmetry comes before Parallels, which was less aggressive but no less inspiring,

TEHO. I never got into Symphony X. They were much-hyped when Divine Wings of Tragedy appeared, and honestly I was disappointed. No particular reason why they didn't click with me, but Allen, while a capable singer, didn't tickle my ears the way guys like Ronnie Dio, Glenn Hughes, John Lawton, Alder and Tate have. And we all know Dio was "the best in the business in that style," anyway.

Alder for sure, he is a legendary vocalist, at least for me, like a lot his tone and has some spectacular moments on many albums

Daniel Gildenlöw.

Gildenlow. I agree with sleeper, Alder struck me as more in the Tate-mould and there were frankly too many such singers in the 90s. I also agree with verslibre about Dio; he was the king of heavy f***ing metal. Gildenlow is way more versatile than Dio though and is able to carve out a niche for himself in that way.
