From the Symphonic Conference we have one of the greatest of all bands. Easy victor over The Strawbs in round 1.
From England
ELP!!!!!!
hell yeah. Going out with guns blazin' boys.
From the Symphonic Conference we have, some band that knocked off DSO a band with better.. everything.. oh well
From England
Camel!!!!
Vegas oddmakers have installed Camel as a 15 vote favorite. Can ELP pull an... really.. the upset. Not likely but perhaps times have changed on this site.

Camel.
Now, remember when I said ELP have five great albums I love? Same with Camel. So it was a toss-up, and I realised that it would be much more fun to vote for some Moonmadness.
I simply came into PA today, and voted for fing Camel over ELP.

It's alright... Micky is making his list and updating it twice...
and it is early. This fight has just begun!! I have faith in the intellect of prog fan to recognize the redeeming quality of brilliance of a group that is not the most easy to listen to or accessible but highly creative and distinctive in sound and structure over the bland generic prog of a popular group.
half the fun will be pulling out a late victory if we can keep it close... and sweet as revenge is on that level would be... the real fun will be taking revenge out on the forums on those who have displeased me

The first 3 for me are letter perfect and connected hard, the 4th Trilogy, not bad but a bit too subdued for me. ELP is like a Italian sportcar.. not built for doing 55 but going full throttle. BSS is a masterpiece but a flawed one as many of the masterpieces were. Very few real perfect masterpieces are ever truly found.

I dig Mirage and Nude from Camel, but could never get into Snow Goose and Moonmadness (I was hoping to due to the cool album title...oh well). Killer guitar solos though.
Still, I listen to ELP way more, and Greg is probably my fav prog vocalist from the 'classic' era. Love that "Battlefield" section of Tarkus so much.

Just broke the current tie in favor of ELP. We will see how long that lasts. Camel may have put out more good albums over the years; their work is like the top 3/4 of the great pyramid - majestic and awe-inspiring. ELP is like the bottom 1/4 - the solid foundation. You can take the top cap. You can remove the exterior. You can eliminate the majority of the structure, but the foundation will remain. No matter what else they did, those first four albums are essential Prog.
