FX loops/AB switches

I've done huge amounts of this and am still getting my arrangement organized. I have four lines of pedals with roughly fifteen pedals each! And I like to hear more than one line at time on occasion. I've used (three) Morley ABY switches to switch between them. The problem is that the Y option splits the signal, so I have to preamp them. To avoid the dance of shutting off a preamp on an active line when I close another line on the Morley, I keep the Morley pedals on the Y selection all the time and use a combination of preamp followed by an old timey noise gate. The preamp becomes an on/off switch bringing the signal above or below the attack setting of the gate. I've also begun experimenting with linking together three or more old timey ADA PitchTraq rack mount pitch shifters, as I can daisy chain the effect outputs between them, but then they also have direct outputs on each, and I have no need to preamp them except for use as an "on/off" switch once again (or alternatively I may use a compressor for the same function, still experimenting).

The Boss pedal might serve you quite well. The equivalent of the Y selection is covered by the A+B Mode. The problem with this for me is that if I am playing one line of effects and want to add another line in, then I can't use my foot, I have to bend over and turn the Mode dial. And for me, for my sensibilities, the bypass selection on the Boss pedal is not good for anything. That being said, if all you want to do is switch between an A and a B, this pedal looks very useful. For about $275 you can also get a Pigtronix Keymaster. I don't have this pedal because it's $275. I don't think the Keymaster allows A+B, but I could be wrong. What it does that is really cool is it allows you to cross-fade between A. And B.
