There is a band in Xover called Fair to Midland that uses banjo... sadly I can't remember anything about them apart from this publicity shot, which had me in fits of giggles for some inexplicable reason:

I cannot tell if I like that Chopper, might be due that it's a live recorded video, doesn't sound much what I'd like to listen to be honest

Biffy started promising, one minute in erm uhm no not my thing at all.
I don't know if Guster can be considered pop, more underground rock, but their 2006 release, "Ganging Up On The Sun" is an A+ in my book. And I've only given out A+'s to thirtysome albums.
