That's my thought on it also.....Gabriel has some really unique songs on his first one.
And while I think Collins is an excellent drummer and good songwriter his songs are simply too mainstream for my tastes.

Wow! The top 4 are all very close for me.  Probably Face Value > Voyage of the Acolyte > Car > Geese and the Ghost.
But Face Value and Voyage will always flip back and forth for first place. What a great set of debuts!

`Voyage' gets my vote, just as good as anything Genesis did in that 70's period. But damn did Hackett fall far with that follow-up `Please Don't Touch' album.....God, what a piece of dross that was, one of the poorest albums I own.

But `Ghost and the Geese' is sublime, pretty sure Gabriel's 1st one is good, just haven't heard it in about 15 years. `Face Value' is not too bad either for what it is.

But I've never heard either `A Curious Feeling' or `Smallcreep's Day' - are they worth bothering with?

^ I used to have them both - Smallcreeps had a side-long suite which was pretty decent, I just couldn't stand the vocalist, the sound is akin to 'Abacab' from memory. Curious Feeling was O.K. but I didn't find it that amazing. Can't remember the singer - Kim Beacon comes to mind.

I love Gabriel's debut album , more so than PG3. Steve's debut never really floated my boat and I don't have the others

Supporting Tony Banks here, though Hackett and Rutherford also delivered some great stuff

^ That sounds like a Hackett solo! (The word, not the meaning!) I'll add that I like all four of his first solos up through Defector before things detour into "YMMV" territory.
