Ok, here's the story -

I shelled out a ton of money for Cubase years ago, and more and more as the years passed for upgrades, up to version 5. Then I hired a plumber to do some work in the basement. He was a DJ after-hours, and showed a lot of interest in our basement recording studio.

It wasn't until months later, when I wanted to reinstall Cubase on a new computer, that I discovered the absense of my Cubase software box. Jerk. It's useless to him anyway because it requires a dongle, which I still have.

The problem is Steinberg does not offer Cubase 5 for download anymore. I might be able to get it through some dubious torrent or something but even that has proven to be impossible so far.

So, anyone have any ideas?

Hey there,
Have you tried contacting Steinberg support?
I'm sure that with your eLiscencer info they can resend you the SW for a "small" fee...

That would probably work, but I'm kind of done with Cubase. Been using Ableton Live for a couple years. We just have a few old unfinished ones in Cubase I want to finish up. So I downloaded the demo and I have 30 days to make my peace with these stragglers.

Have fun there...
I find Cubase 7 to be ideal for my needs: mainly music production (mostly synthetic), mixing (starting cubase 7...) and some recording...
I only use Ableton Live for ... live concerts.

Cubase is great, been using it since the '90's, but I've always found it difficult to do simple things, like controlling things thru midi with control surfaces. I guess the reason I like Live so much now is because we've changed our way of working from slow and meticulous to live and spontaneous. We use an iPod app called TouchAble to control almost every parameter in Live while we're playing. I wouldn't trust it in a real live concert but when we're recording live in the studio it's a blast.
