Steve Hackett. How could it be anything else?
I agree Steve Hillage and Steve Wilson should be on the list.

You're in a tough position here. Did you vote?

Yes, where is Wilson? |
I think Wilson is missing because he is Steven rather than Steve.

Steve Winwood and Steve Lukather are also good guitar players. But I stick to the poll: I choose Steve Howe simply because I like his style(s) the most.

1. Howe 2. Vai 3. Morse 4. Hackett 5. Rothery All fantastic players; Hackett though, a little bit too praised on this site, I must say.

Steve Howe. He is one of my favourite guitarists of all time. Plus, his style is just so psychedelic you know... and Yes' 35th anniversary gig in Glasgow was my first gig ever. It was truly an awesome way to come of age and it would not have been possible without him (Steve was seconded only to Randy Rhoads at the time so seeing him was amazing given that for obvious reasons I could not see Randy).
But, all that aside, you've missed out my other favourite Steve...
Steve Hillage. That man could put you into tantric hippie bliss with any of his solos. Fish Rising is truly wonderous. And his work in System 7 is pretty hot...simply because he, like the Ozric Tentacles, used his magical powers for good causes and thus invaded raves with rock 'n' roll. What a guy.

These are 5 amazing players, all acknowledged as among the best. I enjoy all of there work. My favorite though is Steve Morse. I find his body of work, from the Dixie Dregs, through the Steve Morse Band, his solo career, and his work with Kansas and Deep Purple to be spectacular. There is nothing he cannot play and play well.
Who's your favorite and why. Have fun. |
he can play a lot of genres that's true (classical, ambient, celtic folk, hard-rock, jazz-rock, country, blues) but I am still waiting to hear some reggae from him...
