On a similar note [as Mo Boma], how does one classify Medeski Martin and Wood?  I know that they are a fusion band with tendencies to traditional and avant garde jazz.  However, I think that they are progressive as well.  I think that MMW fit roughly in the same category as Bill Bruford's Earthworks.

Anyone heard their album Combustication?  I love it!

Like I said, I am not trying to get these guys added to ProgArchives.  It may have seemed so before I edited my post.  That is why I edited it.  Any thoughts?

They are usually classified as either free jazz or a jamband They have extremely long songs live (i remember one of their concerts i went to had a 30 minute song) but there songs are usually short(er) on their studio albums cause their songs length is more from improvisation than epic song-writing or something.

I have only one album from them, called "Shack-Man". It is certainly not prog, and, although I do like it, I must say it's not amazingly good.

I bought the album because it was very VERY cheap and it was on Rykodisc, so I figured at least it had to be original music.

No, but they teamed up with John Scofield on his "A go go" album, which definitely kicks ass.

I've got a live version of Crosstown Traffic that absolutely smokes.  Guy coaxes some crazy sh*t out of that organ!  I'd like to hear more.

Combustication and It's A Jungle In Here are awesome, but Tonic is a little too traditional for my taste.  Combustication is a must have album!  I just happened to notice it at a Borders store one day and bought it --not being familiar with MMW at the time.  I most definitely was not disappointed!
