Hi, I might sell my current classical guitar to buy an upgrade. I'm looking for a beginner-intermediate classical guitar, with a $300-400 price range. Maybe something with a punchy bass sound, since I play bass pieces for my class.

Hi, my son is currently studying classical guitar (he's 12) and must have some talent as he has been selected for the specialist music program at a high school nearby (they are one of the biggest music schools here). We need to upgrade his current guitar for next year and we have been looking at the Yamaha range - they are $700 AUD (I bet they are cheaper in the states) but the sound is superb - clarity across the range and noticeably refined in the lower register - none of the buzz you get with the cheap ones.

Maybe see whats available locally for you?

I've had a cheapie Yamaha C-40 for years.  It's a bit beat up but I wouldn't even consider getting another until it goes bust or something.  It was one of the things I felt important to get out of the house when it was flooding.  I think I got it for about $100 USD.  Sounds like what you need is an acoustic bass guitar or a stand up.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Yamaha make good guitars, but if I were you I would at least consider to pay a bit more for an Alhambra. The cheapest one is about 500 $:

A friend of mine has an Alhambra, and it sounds wonderful with D’Addario Pro Arté Hard Tension. My best advice is to go to different shops and try their guitars.
