Before you read any further: If you don't think that Devin Townsend is progressive, then SYL are probably not for you. Also, if you can't stand double bass drums, steer clear ...

Here's a link to a full track of their album "Alien":

Edit: You'll have to replace the * of sh*t with an i, it is automatically being replaced with an * by the profanity filter

Please, before you comment on the music, listen through the WHOLE track, it really varies a lot.

I think they would be a nice addition to the archives, although they're quite heavy. But you have to look beneath the blastbeats here.

I love SYL.  I'm seeing them live at the end of july, and Alien is one of my top albums of 2005.  City is also a masterpiece.

HOWEVER...

They aren't prog in the slightest.  Maybe Alien has some very slight prog elements, but their other three albums have virtually nothing to do with prog, definitely not enough to warrant an addition to the archives.

I agree that they probably aren't prog by the standards of prog archives. I just think that their last album is prog - at least in my book. I don't mind at all if someone doesn't even consider them to be prog ... the sample track (sh*tstorm) also isn't the best example for their proggier side on the new album, it just happens to be the only track that's available for free.

Let's agree that they are not prog, but quite unusual and interesting.
