I'm very fortunate to be among the few to hear the new Glass Hammer
album, The Inconsolable Secret, before its scheduled release date of July 12.
Folks, I've got to tell you, in my opinion this new album will not only be one
of the strongest releases of 2005, but perhaps one of the strongest the
progressive genre will ever seen. The music is absolutely fascinating. If
you're a Glass Hammer fan, you'll definitely want to pick up the new album
as soon as you possibly can. If you're not yet a GH fan, this album will make
you one.

That's an extremely hefty claim to make.  I love Shadowlands, though, so I'll be getting this.

I like Chronometree and Lex Rex a lot, but Shadowlands came off like more of the same and I never get the urge to listen to it. Sometimes I wonder if Steve and Fred ought to let the singers write their own parts. While the new 2CD is a good value at $20, I'm going to wait for some feedback from some friends before I actually pick it up. I've spent way too much money on music the last 3-4 years and I need to cool it.

Can you expand a little?? What makes it so special from the rest of thier stuff? I want to get into Glass Hammer but haven't yet purchased a CD of theirs. Which is the best one to start with? My favorite bands are those who sound like Yes, Rush, Anglagard and/or Gentle Giant. Does Glass Hammer have a symphonic sound with good heavy compositions?

Best of 2006 that I've heard:
PFM-Stati Di Immaginazione
Zenit-Surrender (Best "unknown" album)
Oaksenham - Conquest of Pacific
2007:
Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon
La Torre Del Alchimista - Neo

I'm not sure I'll be convinced... I gave Lex Rex a try and absolutely hated it. It was dreadfully unoriginal. Have Glass Hammer got a lot more creative now, or are they still trying to rehash Yes, Genesis and ELP?
