One of the good things about the Zeppelin song man ship was their eschewing of choruses. What is there, Communication Breakdown? All My Love? Get a virtual non entity like Ozone Baby and the tune Plants puts in this makes it a quite appealing number saving the backing track! But a really great example of a song that avoids the chorus is That's The Way. Those guitars and the placing of the bass just at the end (arrangement) gives it a very subtle and, um, understated, majestic feel. No sing along choruses - the complete opposite of say The Beatles or Beach Boys. One of the many reasons why Zeppelin really a re a progressive rock band. (Nothing wrong with choruses I should add, just very brave to not do that...) Mind you Plant doesn't do choruses much in his solo career either.

Stairway works as a song and a piece which leads to the well timed minimalist guitar solo and blazing last verse. The piece works around the relative minor and two major key themes before the climax. No chorus but a refrain of the title. Not a traditional pop song but more classical and lyrically, strictly a ballad (sung in the third person).

Even more classical is Kashmir. (I really recommend listening to this one fro the drums upwards which is how it originated.) The verse is the main ascending riff the desending suspensions works in lieu of a chorus. Now it is desert music which happens in a  different personal perception of time - a long contemplative number rather than a thrash. It took a while for me to get into this one years ago but then all the harmonies come clear(er) after a few listens.

I really recommend the Symphonic Led Zeppelin album (arr. Jaz Colman) for another perspective on the harmonic arrangements of Zeppelin. But they were not really a pop group.

At the end of the last Earls Court gig PLant asks his bandmates if they have any hits. Page shakes his head. Then, ha ha, they play D'yer Mak'er as an encore...

Worst (but  not "bad") number... (I originally thought this was a trick question). But significantly Autumn Lake (Hurdy Gurdy solo from the movie) has not had an audio release... so... twist my arm... oh! it's not on the list there. Thank gawd. Can't vote here. But some interesting posts!
