Topic: Book or e-Reader Posted: October 29 2010 at 22:31 |
With Amazon,Barnes & Noble,Borders all having their own versions of e-Readers and the iPad having that functionality will books become the next 8-track cassette?
I can see where it would be far better to have your college text books on a single tablet style reader. The only downside would be how could the publishers of those textbooks justify what they charge for them.
I can't say that I would read more if I had an e-reader. It would be far simpler to read things though.

Doesn't seem like a downside to me . Although I think a lot of that cost comes from compiling and developing the textbook, not just producing them.
As for me, books straight up. You can get comfy with a book, especially a pocket paperback (my favorite way to buy books). With a solid electrical thing - not so much. Plus I work on a computer screen all day, so while squinting at tiny text printed on paper isn't much better, at least I give my eyes a break from the harsh light.

I read books, not electronic representations of them.

I've never used an e-Reader so I'm not going to vote, but I guess there are advantages to each.

Books will obviously win, since they were there first.

This for me too! I want to hold a book in my hands and turn the pages, not look at a screen, I do that enough while on my computer. Reading a book is my escape from staring at a screen. Give me a book every time.

I haven't used e-books either, so perhaps Matt is right and I shouldn't vote, but I like too much the look of a nicely filled book case (fun to look at when you're visiting people too) not to vote for books.

I'd rather live without electricity than without books.
