Hey everybody, I'm 16 years old and I do a lot of prog research.  I'm a drummer and bassist myself, and I really dig downright nasty technical stuff that can hold a groove.  I just love stuff with substance.  So of course I listen to prog!  I found prog about 2 years ago but I'm into it no more than ever.  I realized I've been around prog my entire life, I listened to a lot of Dream Theater with my Mom when I was a kid, and I was surrounded by Rush everywhere I went when I was a kid.  Now I listen to a lot of fusion like Weather Report and Return to Forever.  I like a lot of artsy stuff as well, I love the improvisation and overall setting of King Crimson, and I love the aura of Yes, Steve Howe's clear tone and the extremely catchy and impressive songs that they create, Close to the Edge changed my life.  I get entire discographies of certain bands thanks to people I meet online, haha.  I recently listened to the entire Gentle Giant discography, pretty cool.  I have to say that my favorite prog artist is Zappa.  Near everything he's done has been ahead of it's time, he's a compositional genius, and he's hilarious.  And I will hold my belief that he always had the best band at any point in his career.  Especially the Roxy & Elsehwere, that band was fast, clean, and got Frank's complex music right, and it was all beautiful and funky as hell.  Anyways, I hope to amass a decent collection of progressive music, if not materially, then mentally, because I don't have a job!  I'll listen to things I find.  Anyways I hope to find some bands that really click with me, and this should be a great place.  Thank God you guys have these samples, haha.

If you are a drummer check out "Pierre Moerlen" of Gong. I'm a drummer myself and was mostly influenced by his amazing style. Sadly he died on the 3rd of May at the age of 52, in the middle of the production of a new album. Try "You" by Gong; my personal opinion is he was at his absolute peak at that time, though he always was great.

BaldJean and I; I am the one in blue.

I downloaded the Isle of Everywhere, and I completely agree with you.  That rolled intro is SICK.

Other amazing drummers are Bill Bruford (of course you know him) and Christian Vander from the French band Magma. You will probably be familiar with the stuff Terry Bozzio did with Zappa, but his solo stuff (I have one album) is interesting as well (he sounds like two or three guys playing drums, all on his own).
