I posted something to the "Get the Word Out" thread, having missed this particular subsection of the forum. So, here goes.

About two years ago, an old friend who I used to play with in the 80s and I decided to try again, based on some quite interesting collaborations we'd done over the internet. We roped in a third guy our age and started jamming, leading to many interesting ideas. But we were still short a decent keyboard player and a drummer.

Cue my old girlfriend. She called to tell me that her then 16-year-old son was listening to "the same weird kind of music that you like". For his 17th birthday, I gave him some vital CDs. You know: Yes, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Genesis.

As he was going to music school to be a drummer, we invited him to try out for the band, and we were thrilled to find him more than up to the task. Later, he recruited a class mate as a keyboardist, and he too turned out to be well-suited. He turns eighteen on Sunday.

So, here we are, three geezers and two kids. We call ourselves Somewhere, and our debut release is a song we call Bridges.  You can either hear it on our MySpace page here, but I would recommend you listen to it on Soundcloud instead (where you can also feel free to download it, if you like).

We also, ambitiously, have a t-shirt store, where you can purchase items with our logo and/or a little slogan we cheekily reworked from Manowar. It's half serious and half tongue-in-cheek, in case you're wondering.

We're currently working on a Christmas tune which will be out in a few weeks, then an EP in the spring (with a new, slightly reworked version of Bridges) and a full album in about a year.

The Elsewhere blog will start posting in earnest on Monday, October 4th.

Please let us know what you think.

Thank you, Rivertree. =) There were some very kind responses over on the "Get the Word Out" thread where I erroneously posted at first.

Much as I am proud of Bridges, I think it's just a hint of what this band can do. It's coming together incredibly well, despite us having limited rehearsal time.

The Christmas song (which I can now reveal is called The Twelve Days of Progmas) is coming along well and should be out before the end of November with accompanying Youtube video and t-shirt.

Edit: New post up on wandering off the map.

Thank you. That bit was originally instrumental, and the melody line "Vaulting arches..." was a guitar bit, but I sat with the original demo at home going "I know I can get more vocals in if I try!". Amazingly, it actually comes off in rehearsal, since everyone in the band is a decent singer. I really look forward to performing that section live (whenever we get to the point where we start getting bookings).

Our Christmas song is done!

A merry Progmas to you all! Please feel free to spread goodwill to all mankind (or at least all those who are proggily inclined) by sharing this.

Oh, and our dedicated website is live at Somewhere.nu.

Thanks so much, Damo. I don't really know if there's another appropriate place to post this here on PA, since this isn't the most well-trafficked of sub-forums, and I would really like to spread the word on this.

Oh, and I just posted the Christmas prog sleeves I created for the video.

Thanks, Snow Dog. I'm happy to see that music can build bridges (see what I did there?) between people. Thank you for the gracious and nice comments.

Keep checking Somewhere.nu for news on new material, behind the scenes info on the making of the debut and other fun stuff.

And as to song samples in your blog, chilling synth attack is quite exciting for me ... great! Beer
